うに、レイヤ(階層)構造化された複数のレイヤを順次
実行するような構成となっており、例えば、送信時には
、トランスポートレイヤにおいて、トランスポート接続
要求ブロック(TCR)及びその応答であるトランスポ
ート接続受付ブロック(TCA)のやり取りによってト
ランスポート接続が設定され、セッションレイヤにおい
て、セッション開始コマンド(CSS)及びその応答で
あるセッション開始レスポンス(RSSP)のやり取り
によってセッション設定(通信のための端末間の機能設
定など)を行い、引き続いてドキュメントレイヤに移っ
てドキュメントの転送を行なうというように、通信プロ
トコルで定められたレイヤを順次実行することによって
通信が行われるようになっている。一方、G4ファクシ
ミリに使用される通信プロトコルは、テレテックスと同
様にレイヤ(階層)構造化された複数のレイヤを順次実
行するような基本構成がISO(国際標準化機構)から
提唱されて各ファクシミリメーカーで採用されているが
、プロトコルの細部に至っては未だ確立しておらず、各
ファクシミリメーカーで独自の設定を行っているのが実
状であった。
