Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform stable magnetic recording and reproducing by inserting a tape cleaning member into one of a pair of apertures for tape traveling means where no tape is inserted. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic tape 11 pulled out of a reel 2 is guided by a supply side pinch roller 6 and brought into contact with a felt member 23, where dust depositing on the magnetic tape 1 is wiped out with the felt. Further the tape 1 is guided by a tape guide 13 to be engaged at a specified angle and wrap angle on a drum 16. Therefore, information is recorded or reproduced in a specified format in the cleaned tape 1 by a rotating magnetic head of the drum 16. Then the tape 1 wrapped on the drum 16 is guided by a guide 14 and traveled by the driving force of the capstan spindle 17 and wound up on a reel 3. On fast forward or rewinding of a tape, the plate 20 is moved upward to separate the capstan 17 and the felt member 23 from the tape 1. Thereby, magnetic recording and reproducing are stably performed on a cleaned tape.
