In a flexible disk type magnetic recording device, the disk surface and the read/write head are constantly in contact with each other, which causes significant wear and tear on the disk, which shortens the life of the disk. In addition, non-contact magnetic storage devices have also been developed in recent years.
As disk densities continue to increase and there is significant contact between the disk and the write/read head, wear cannot be ignored.

It is also possible to determine the total number of errors that occur when accessing the disk, the total amount of time the disk was accessed, and the number of times the power was turned on and off. Furthermore, by saving the above data in the free space of the disk or the free space of another disk, and reading this data, it is possible to determine the lifespan of the disk and know when to replace the device.

By having a means to receive information such as error occurrence, number of times, and time from the disk drive controller and to notify the outside of the occurrence of an error using a display, it is possible to monitor the status of error occurrence and determine the lifespan of the disk. To realize notification of the lifespan of a disk drive.

できる。Thereafter, if a retry instruction is given from the CPUI 1, the controller 12 reads the data in the same sector again, and if there is no error, outputs a negative pulse to the no-error signal line. Counter 14 is reset by the no error signal. However, if the data that has been read out again is also checked and found to be an error, the counter 14 counts the number of errors again. When the number of consecutive error occurrences reaches a specified value, the display 15 displays this information externally using an LED or the like. This allows you to understand the status of continuous disk errors.
