Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent adsorption and to improve reliability of a magnetic disk device by crown-machining an air bearing slider to form a protrusion at a center, and forming a read/write slider in a linearly flat surface. CONSTITUTION:Two air bearing sliders 1 and a read/write slider 2 provided between both the sliders 1 of the three sliders are provided in parallel. Only the surfaces of the sliders 1 are crown-machined to form protrusions at the center, and the surface of the slider 2 having a gap 3 is formed in a linearly flat surface. Thus, since adsorption of a magnetic disk is prevented and the sliders 1 are floated in larger heights than the gap 3, reliability of a magnetic disk device can be improved.

Among the magnetic heads for conventional magnetic disk devices, there are three parallel magnetic heads, including two air bearing sliders provided on both sides and a magnetic recording read/write slider provided between these two air bearing sliders. In a so-called 3-hole slider type magnetic head having a slider, the top surfaces of all three sliders are linear flat parts (planes). However, with the increase in the density of magnetic recording, the surface of the slider of the magnetic head As the surfaces of magnetic disks become smoother, adhesion between them begins to occur.
In order to prevent this, the upper surface of the slider is often subjected to so-called crown processing, in which the center portion thereof has a convex roundness. This crown processing is 3
It is common to apply this to all sliders in a book.

In the conventional magnetic head in which all three sliders are crowned as described above, if the amount of crown (curvature) is increased to increase the effect of preventing the adhesion phenomenon, the magnetic head will not be able to move over the magnetic disk. When the magnetic head and the magnetic disk are levitated, the position where the magnetic head and the magnetic disk come closest (minimum flying height) is different from the position of the gap part where magnetic recording is performed. In order to set the distance to the desired value, it is necessary to reduce the minimum flying height. Reducing the minimum flying height means increasing the risk of so-called head crashes, where the magnetic head comes into contact with the magnetic disk and causes damage, which significantly reduces the reliability of the magnetic disk drive. There is a problem.

In addition, in a magnetic head that does not have a crown or has a small crown, the position of the minimum flying height almost coincides with the position of the gap, but an air bearing slider with an air spring action also has a gap for reading and writing. The air bearing slider, which has the same shape as the magnetic disk slider, has the same flying height, and if the flying height is reduced to increase the recording density, the air bearing slider, which is wider than the read/write slider, can also be used for magnetic disks. The risk of a head crash in close proximity increases.

Table 1 [Effects of the Invention] As explained above, in the magnetic head of the present invention, only the air bearing slider is crowned, and the read/write slider is not crowned and has a linear flat section. (Flat surface) prevents adhesion to the magnetic disk, and when the air bearing slider floats, the flying height is higher than that of the gap, improving the reliability of the magnetic disk drive. effective.
