Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable only the user of the liquid crystal panel to view display contents by providing a polarizing plate on a front side freely attachably and detachably to and from the panel body so that the polarizing plate covers the entire surface or a part of the surface of the liquid crystal cell. CONSTITUTION:The polarizing plate 7 is formed freely attachable and detachable and is positioned between the liquid crystal display panel A and the user 11. The polarizing plate 8 on the rear side faces a panel light source 9 while the front side polarizing plate 7 detached from the front side of cell glass 4 enclosing a liquid crystal 1 exists in front of the user 11 who views the display screen. The incident polarized light on the inside of the liquid crystal 1 changes as the plane of the polarization thereof mates the light distribution direction of the liquid crystal unless a voltage is impressed between transparent electrodes 2 and 3. The polarized light, thereupon, transmits only the panel part impressed with the voltage and does not transmit the other parts if the polarization directions of the light shielding plates 7 and 8 are held the same. Only the user is able to recognize the display images in this way.

(Prior Art) As shown in FIG. 6(a), a generally known liquid crystal display panel has a cell glass 4.5 in which liquid crystal 1 is oriented at a predetermined angle and transparent electrodes 2.3 are provided on the inner surface. It consists of a liquid crystal cell 6 sandwiched between them, a polarizing plate 7.8 provided integrally on both the front and back surfaces according to the orientation angle of the liquid crystal, and a planar light source 9 provided on the back surface, or (b). As shown, a reflector plate]0 is provided on the back surface of the liquid crystal display cell shown in (a) in order to use incident light from the front side as a light source.

(Problem to be Solved by the Invention) However, such a liquid crystal display panel is difficult to use when you do not want outsiders to see the contents of the display screen, for example, when you are creating data during business negotiations or confidential documents. The problem is that all the displayed contents can be seen by outsiders, and furthermore, it is difficult to limit the display to five screens because the display screen is produced only by the liquid crystal drive unit.

(Means for Solving the Problem) The above problem is to provide a liquid crystal display panel having a liquid crystal cell and a polarizing plate, in which the front polarizing plate is detachably attached to the panel body, and the polarizing plate or a separate polarizing plate is provided. A liquid crystal display panel that covers the entire surface or a part of a liquid crystal cell, a liquid crystal display method thereof, a liquid crystal cell, a polarizing plate and a reflecting plate sequentially attached to one side of the liquid crystal cell, and a polarized light source that illuminates the other side. The problem is solved by the invention of a liquid crystal display panel and a liquid crystal display method thereof, which are characterized by comprising the following.

This will be explained below.1 In the present invention, the polarizing plate on the front side can be separated from the panel main body, and it is normally used with the polarizing plate attached, but when it is desired to distinguish between the display contents shown to the user and outsiders. The front polarizing plate is removed and the polarizing plate is placed only between the front side of the LCD panel and the panel user, and the displayed image is completely invisible to outsiders who are in the direction away from the polarizing plate. So do it.

Examples of the types of polarizing plates include those made from processed natural porphyrite, tourmaline, etc., those made from herbatite, and those made by dipping iodine into a -axially stretched polyvinyl alcohol film. Reflected light from water, glass, etc. may be used as a polarized light source.

(Example) Example 1 The transmissive liquid crystal display panel shown in FIG.
is detached from the front side of the cell glass 4 surrounding the liquid crystal 1 and is located in front of the user 11 viewing the display screen,
The polarizing plate 8 on the back side faces the planar light source 9. The plane of polarization of the polarized light incident on the liquid crystal 1 changes according to the alignment direction of the liquid crystal unless a voltage is applied between the transparent electrodes 2 and 3, but does not change when a voltage is applied. Therefore, if the polarization directions of the polarizing plates 7 and 8 are set in the same direction, the polarized light is transmitted only to the part of the panel to which the voltage is applied, and the other parts are not transmitted, so that only the user can recognize the displayed image.

Embodiment 2 In the reflective liquid crystal display panel B shown in FIG. 2, the polarizing plate 7 is separated from the front side of the cell glass 4 surrounding the liquid crystal 1 and is positioned in front of the user 11 viewing the display screen. A reflecting plate 10 is provided on the polarizing plate 8 on the back side to reflect light to the front side. In this case as well, anyone could recognize the displayed content when the polarizing plate 7 was attached, but in the detached state as shown in the figure, only the user 11 looking through the polarizing plate 7 could recognize the content, and outsiders could turn off the power. It looked the same as if it had been cut.

Embodiment 3 In the reflective liquid crystal display panel C shown in FIG. 3, when the polarizing plate 7 on the front side is removed and polarized light is emitted from the polarized light source 12, only the irradiated area 13 is displayed, and the rest is displayed even if a voltage is applied to the transparent electrode. The displayed image cannot be recognized even if it is displayed. However, when the user 11 wore the polarized glasses 14, he was able to recognize all displayed images.

Embodiment 4 In the liquid crystal display type calculator shown in FIG. 4, a polarizing plate 7 is attached to the calculator by a hinge 15 and is provided so as to cover a screen display section 16. In this case, the user 11 views the screen display section 16 through the polarizing plate 7 and can therefore recognize the displayed content, but the outsider 17 cannot.

Embodiment 5 As shown in FIG. 5, when the liquid crystal display panel of the present application is used in a liquid crystal television E, a polarizing plate 7 is attached to the front side of the television body using a fixing frame 18, and when it reaches the end of life, it is attached to the back side. Fit it into the storage part 19. If a polarizing plate is placed between the user and the panel or if the user wears polarized glasses, only the user can recognize the displayed content; outsiders cannot recognize it at all.

(Effect of the invention) As described above, by making the polarizing plate removable and positioning it between the liquid crystal display panel and the user, it is possible to operate the panel without letting outsiders know the displayed content. In addition, if you irradiate polarized light from the front side of a reflective type LCD panel or the back side of a transmissive type LCD panel with the polarizing plate removed or not, you can easily illuminate only the desired area of the panel. Furthermore, when using a reflective liquid crystal panel, it is easy to create a display in which only a portion of the screen is visible to people other than those viewing the panel through a polarizing plate, and the polarizing plate can be rotated by 9Q degrees. It is also possible to select and view positive images and negative images, making the present invention extremely useful industrially.
