Abstract

PURPOSE:To smoothly feed pieces of a masking material into a robot by forming an adhesive layer on the surface of a belt conveyor on which the pieces are set. CONSTITUTION:Pieces of a masking material 3 are set on an adhesive layer 2 at one end A of a belt conveyor 1, conveyed from the accumulation position to a fitting position and picked up by fitting units 6 at the other end B of the conveyor 1. Each of the units 6 is composed of a sucking disk 7, a support pipe 8 and an evacuating and air sending path 9 and has been connected to a robot. The masking material 3 is fixed in a hole 10A to be protected in a member 10 through an inserting part 5 and air is sent to the disk 7 through the path 9 to separate the material 3 from the disk 7. Masking material fitting stages can completely be automated.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [Field of Industrial Application] The present invention relates to a masking method for protecting a part of the surface of a member with a masking material to prevent surface treatment from being applied to the part.

For example, protective paints such as polyvinyl chloride sol and tar urethane are applied to the underside of automobile floors to provide anti-rust, sound and vibration-proof treatment. When applying such protective paint, in order to prevent the protective paint from adhering to the inside and periphery of holes such as water drain holes, cable holes, screw holes, and component through holes that exist under the floor of automobiles, for example. , the hole is protected with a masking material. Further, in order to prevent the protective paint from adhering to the parts where members such as brackets are attached, bosses, etc., it is necessary to protect these parts with a masking material.

Adhesive tape has conventionally been used as the masking material mentioned above, but with adhesive tape it is necessary to cut it into a predetermined size and shape each time and stick it to the protected area, and because it is thin, it is difficult to apply the adhesive tape after painting. It becomes embedded in the surface, making it extremely difficult to remove it.

Hitherto, masking materials made of plastic foams such as polystyrene foam have been provided in place of the above-mentioned adhesive tapes (Japanese Patent Laid-Open Nos. 43376-1986 and 1983-1999).
No. 85171, etc.). Masking materials made from such plastic foam can be easily molded into a predetermined shape.
Moreover, since the thickness can be increased, the work of attaching and removing the masking material to the protected area becomes extremely easy. It is also important that such masking materials can be applied and removed from protected areas using robots.

In order to supply the masking material to the robot, it is conceivable to use a conveyor to transport the masking material from the collection location to the installation location. However, in a robot, the location from which the masking material is picked up is fixed. Therefore, it is necessary to place the masking material at a fixed position on the belt conveyor so that it does not move.
