送される媒体を検出する媒体検出装置であつて、
表面にそつて上記媒体が搬送される支持板には、
上記センサが挿通される開口部と、この開口部の
一端縁部の近傍に位置する窓穴とが形成してあり
、 上記センサは、上記開口部に挿通され、上記発
光部と上記受光部とが上記開口部の上記一端縁部
を跨いで上記窓穴と対向するように設置してあり
、 上記開口部の上記一端縁部の裏面と当該裏面と
対向する上記発光部または上記受光部との間には
、透光性材料で形成されたセンサカバーが介在し
ており、 上記センサカバーには、上記窓穴に嵌合しかつ
端面が上記支持板の上記表面と実質的に同一面を
