Abstract

PURPOSE:To inform a reproducing time required up to the end of a program by providing this magnetic recording and reproducing device with a circuit for periodically recording data indicating the residual time of group image recording on a tape and a display part for displaying the residual time of a program based upon read data. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording and reproducing device is provided with a timer circuit 1 capable of setting up image recording end time, a data recording circuit 4 for periodically recording data indicating a residual time on a tape, a data reproducing circuit 7 for reading out the data recorded on the tape at the time of reproducing, and a display part 9 for displaying the residual time of the program based upon the data read out from the circuit 7. In the case of timer recording, a time required up to the end of the program is periodically recorded on the tape based upon current time and recording end time, and at the time of reproducing the program, the recorded contents are displayed, so that the time required up to the end of the program can be quickly displayed even when the program is reproduced from any position.
