DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION (Field of Industrial Application) The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus with a removable process cartridge. In the present invention, the image forming apparatus is, for example, a copying machine that appropriately adopts various image forming principles and processes of conventionally known direct methods or indirect (transfer) methods such as electrophotography, electrostatic recording, magnetic recording, heat-sensitive recording, pressure-sensitive recording, etc. These include devices, recording devices (printers), display devices, etc. Paper is transfer material, photosensitive paper, electrostatic recording paper◆
Thermal paper ● Pressure-sensitive paper, printing paper, printing paper, thermal transfer paper, etc. (note that the material is not limited to paper). The means for conveying the paper into the main body of the image forming apparatus (hereinafter abbreviated as the main body of the apparatus) includes, for example, a sheet cassette mounting single-sheet separation automatic feeding mechanism, a multi-sheet deck separation automatic feeding mechanism, a manual feeding mechanism, This includes a mechanism for sequentially cutting and feeding roll paper. (Prior Art) An image forming apparatus with a removable process cartridge integrates one or more (part or all) of a plurality of image forming process means constituting an image forming mechanism. The device has a structure in which it is a unit (process cartridge) that can be easily installed and removed from the main body of the device by even an amateur. This type of image processing device will be explained using a transfer type electrophotographic copying device as an example. Conventionally, in transfer-type electrophotographic copying devices, it is necessary to periodically replace the photosensitive drum as an image carrier, replenish toner, dispose of waste toner, clean charging wires, and replace and adjust various consumable parts. This was done by a professional service person. Therefore, a service person had to come each time, which was extremely troublesome. Therefore, for example, by detaching and replacing a process cartridge, in which image forming means (process means) such as a photosensitive drum, developing device, cleaner, and charger are integrally provided, each of the above means and devices can be integrated. It has been proposed to replace them at the same time to reduce maintenance work (see, for example, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 51-2433). With the above configuration, users can easily replace process means and equipment that require periodic maintenance. Another advantage is that it becomes possible to form a desired color image (monochrome image or multicolor image) by replacing the process cartridge with a process cartridge that stores toner of another color. The means for conveying the paper into the apparatus main body, in the case of this example apparatus, the transfer material feeding means is installed in the apparatus main body, and operates based on the paper feed start signal to move the transfer material to the image transfer section. A toner image formed on the surface of a photosensitive drum serving as an image carrier is transferred to the fed transfer material, and the transferred toner image is fixed as a permanently fixed image on the transfer material by a fixing device. After the transfer, the surface of the photosensitive drum is cleaned by a cleaner to remove residual toner and other contaminants, and is used repeatedly for image formation. (Problems to be Solved by the Invention) In conventional image forming apparatuses with removable process cartridges of this type, even if the process cartridge is not installed in the apparatus main body, if the apparatus start button is pressed by mistake, the paper feed may be interrupted. There was an inconvenience that the means operated and paper such as transfer material was fed into the main body of the apparatus, resulting in the paper being wasted. The purpose of the present invention is to prevent such paper waste from occurring. (Means for Solving the Problems) The present invention provides an image forming apparatus with a removable process cartridge, in which when the process cartridge is removed from the apparatus main body, the drive of the means for conveying paper into the apparatus main body is cut off from the drive source. This is an image forming device that is characterized by: (Function) When the process cartridge is removed from the apparatus main body, that is, when the process cartridge 7 is not attached to the apparatus main body, the drive of the paper transport means is cut off from the drive source, that is, the paper transport By keeping the operation of the means in a prohibited state, even if the device start button is pressed by mistake in this state, the paper will not be fed into the main body of the device by the operation of the paper transport means, and therefore the paper will not be fed into the main body of the device. This prevents unnecessary feeding. When the process cartridge is attached to the apparatus main body, the paper transport means is maintained in an operable state. (Embodiment) The drawing shows an embodiment of an image forming apparatus according to the present invention. The image forming device in the example is a transfer-type electrophotographic fL device with a reciprocating manuscript table and a removable process cartridge. FIG. 1 is a schematic longitudinal sectional front view of the apparatus with a process cartridge loaded and ready for copying, and FIG. 2 is a diagram showing the process cartridge in the process of being removed or installed. 1 is the exterior casing of the device; 2 is the exterior casing of this device; It will be done. The original O is placed on the upper surface of the original table glass 2 with the image side to be copied facing downward according to a predetermined placement standard, and the original is set by covering the original mounting plate 3 from above. With the process cartridge C installed in the main body of the apparatus as shown in FIG. ? ll! When you press the copy button after setting conditions such as the number of copies on a console panel (not shown), the photosensitive drum 6 as an image carrier moves onto the support shaft 6.
The rotating photosensitive drum 6 is rotated at a predetermined circumferential speed in the clockwise direction indicated by the arrow as the center, and a voltage is applied to the primary charger 7, so that the circumferential surface of the rotating photosensitive drum 6 is uniformly charged positively or negatively to a predetermined surface potential. It is electrostatically charged. Further, the document platen glass 2 is driven to move, and the downward image surface of the set document O passes through the illumination window portion 1a from one side to the other side, thereby being scanned by slit illumination. 4 indicates the original illumination lamp. The light reflected from the document surface of the illumination scanning light is imaged by the short focus optical element array 5 on the surface of the rotating photosensitive drum 6 which has been uniformly charged by the primary charger 7.
An electrostatic Hs image corresponding to the original image is sequentially formed on the circumferential surface of the image. The electrostatic latent image is then sequentially developed as a toner image in a developing device 8, and then transferred to a photosensitive drum 6 and a transfer charger 9.
and the opposite part (transfer part). Meanwhile, on the supply tray lO! ! The set transfer material is drawn into the transfer device one by one by the feed roller 1l, and is further relayed to the feed roller l2, passes between the guide members 13 and 14 of -H, and is transferred to the photosensitive drum 6 and transfer charging. The toner image on the photosensitive drum 6 side is sequentially transferred onto the fed transfer material by the transfer charger 9.
Next, the transfer material is separated from the surface of the photosensitive drum 6 by a separating means 15, sent to a fixing device 19 via a conveyance path 17 and a conveyance roller 18, where the image is fixed, and is transferred onto an output tray 2l as a copy by an output roller 2o. Sent out. After the image has been transferred, the rotating photosensitive drum 6 is cleaned by a cleaner 16 to remove residual developer remaining after transfer and other adhered contaminants, and is then repeatedly used for image formation. Gl is a drive gear for rotationally driving a photosensitive drum 6 included in a process cartridge C@ to be described later. This drive gear is a member on the device main body side, and is rotationally driven by a drive source such as a main motor (not shown) directly or via a power transmission mechanism such as a gear train (not shown). G2 is a photosensitive drum gear. This drum gear is located on the outside of the side plate on the back side of the cartridge housing 22 of the process cartridge C that includes the photosensitive drum 6.
When the process cartridge C is installed in the device body, the drum gear G2 is in mesh with the drive gear Gl on the device main body side, and the drive gear G
1 is rotated, the rotational force is transmitted to the photosensitive drum 6 via the drum gear G2, and the drum 6 is rotated clockwise around the support shaft 6a at a predetermined circumferential speed. G3, G4, G5, and G6 are gear trains that mesh with each other in series, and are parts of the main body of the device. The first gear G3 of this gear train meshes with the drum gear G2 when the process cartridge C is installed in the apparatus main body. Further, the final gear G6 of the gear train meshes with a gear G7 provided coaxially with the lower roller of the transfer material feeding roller l2 at the far end thereof. When the drive gear G1 is driven to rotate, its rotational force is transmitted to the transfer material feeding roller l2 via the drum gear G2, gear trains 63 to G6, and gear G7. The transfer material feeding roller l1 is rotated in the transfer material feeding direction in conjunction with the rotation of the transfer material feeding roller 12 described above. The rollers 11-12 can also be configured to have an electromagnetic clutch or the like intervened in the rotational force transmission system to transmit the transmission power from the drive source side at a timely manner. If the process cartridge C is made of wood, the photosensitive drum 6
●Four process devices, including a primary charger 7, a developing device 8, and a cleaner 16, are contained in a cartridge 7 case 22, and the process cartridge 2C is attached to and detached from the main body of the device in the case of a wood example device. The document table glass 2 is moved to the left to a predetermined position, and the opening/closing lid part 1b provided on the right side of the apparatus is opened and raised about the elbow axis 1c as shown in the second figure by releasing the locking means (not shown). This opens the inside of the device. The process cartridge C is inserted into and removed from the main body of the apparatus through this opening. When the process cartridge C is taken out of the apparatus main body, the lower surface portion of the photosensitive drum 6 exposed to the outside from the lower surface of the cartridge housing 22 is in a state S (FIG. 2) where the lower surface portion of the photosensitive drum 6 is hidden by the drum force bar l3. , 6 sides of the drum are protected. When installing the process cartridge C into the main body of the apparatus, the drum force bar 13 is opened and operated. Alternatively, when the cartridge C is engaged with a cartridge insertion/removal guide member (not shown) of the cartridge mounting portion of the apparatus main body and pushed into the apparatus main body, this drum cover l3 is automatically moved in conjunction with the pushing movement. It opens and works. When the cartridge C is sufficiently pushed into the apparatus main body and installed, the drum gear G2 is connected to the drive gear Gl. and the first gear G3 of the gear train
It will be in a state of occlusion. Also, the electrical system contacts on the cartridge C side (not shown) and the electrical system contacts on the device main body side (not shown)
are coupled, and the cartridge C becomes electrically connected to the main body of the device. The drum force bar 13 is opened and the exposed lower surface of the photosensitive drum 6 is brought into a state facing the transfer charger 9 in a predetermined position. The exposure window 22a provided on the upper surface side of the cartridge housing 22 is in a state facing the light output side of the short focus optical element array 5 on the apparatus main body side. After the cartridge C is installed, the opening/closing lid part 1b of the main body of the apparatus is closed and held in place by the locking means. This will make the device ready for operation. In the case of a wooden device, the drum force bar 13, which is moved to the open position after the process cartridge C is attached to the device main body, is connected to the guide member l on the device main body side.
4 and serve as a guide member for guiding the transfer material from the feed roller l2 to the transfer section. To remove the cartridge C, open the opening/closing lid part 1b of the main body of the apparatus to release the main body of the apparatus, grasp the exposed side of the developing device 8 of the cartridge C with your hand, and remove it from the main body of the apparatus. The drum force bar l3 automatically closes in conjunction with this removal and removal to hide and protect the lower surface of the photosensitive drum 6. Alternatively, remove cartridge C and then manually close it. By removing this cartridge C from the main body of the device, the drum gear G2
When the drive gear G1 and the first gear G3 of the gear train are removed together with the cartridge C, the connection between the drive gear Gl and the first gear G3 of the gear train is severed (Fig. 2). Therefore, even if the drive gear Gl is rotationally driven by pressing the copy button without noticing that the cartridge C is not installed in the apparatus main body, the gear train 03 to G6 transmits the drive to the transfer material feed roller l2.
Since the first gear G3 is disconnected from the drive gear Gl, the transfer material feeding roller l2 and the feeding roller l1 interlocked with the roller 12 are not in a rotating state. This prevents unnecessary feeding of transfer material (paper), which can occur when storage set transfer material is fed into the main body of the device. In this embodiment, the transfer material feeding roller l2 is driven via the photosensitive drum gear G2, but the transfer material feeding roller 11 may be driven via the photosensitive drum gear G2. Further, the gear train 63 to G6 that transmits the drive may be located on the process cartridge side. It is also possible to adopt a configuration in which a sensor for detecting attachment/removal of a process cartridge to/from the apparatus main body is driven, and when a cartridge removal status is detected, the operation of the transfer material conveyance system is maintained in a prohibited state using an electric circuit. .. In short, as long as the drive of the means for feeding the transfer material into the main body of the apparatus is cut off from the drive source by removing the process cartridge, any structure may be used. (Effects of the Invention) As described above, according to the present invention, even if the operation start button is pressed by mistake when the cartridge is not installed in an image forming apparatus with a removable process cartridge, paper is wasted due to the operation of the paper transport means. No feeding occurs, and the desired size is achieved.
