本発明は、例えば液晶を用いた表示装置におけるバック
ライトとして使用するのに適した照明装置の高効率拡散

従来のバックライトとして使用するのに適した照明装置

光又は光源1よりの光で反射板2にて反射されて乳白色

するものであるが、この拡散光は、その輝度分布が乳白
色板3の面上で均一であり、しかも明るいことが要求さ
れる。そのため主として明るさを大にする目的で、第4
図に示すように断面が鋸歯状をしたフレネル板状の透明
板を乳白色板3の前方に配置し、拡散光に対して一定の
指向性を持たせて乳白色板3からその板面に平行に近い
大きい角度で出射する無駄になる光を比較的前方へ向け

[発明が解決しようとする課題]
このような従来の照明装置は、観察方向によって視野角
