The present invention relates to curable compositions, and more particularly to curable compositions having the general formula (R 1 is hydrogen or methyl group, R 2 has 1 to 5 carbon atoms
hydrocarbon group, R 3 is a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms,
R 4 is OR 3 and/or a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms) (hereinafter sometimes abbreviated as "alkoxyacrylic silane")
The present invention relates to a curable composition that improves the curability of a polymer containing (hereinafter sometimes abbreviated as "alkoxysilane-containing polymer"). Paints using the above-mentioned alkoxysilane polymers are already known, and the paints are applied and a coating film is formed by a curing reaction. The curing reaction mechanism is that the alkoxy groups based on the alkoxyacrylic silane in the alkoxysilane-containing polymer are hydrolyzed by moisture in the air, and the silanol groups produced thereby condense to form siloxane bonds and cure. It is assumed that However, the rate of hydrolysis is extremely slow in the absence of a catalyst, so acid catalysts (e.g. hydrochloric acid, hydrochloric acid,
p-toluenesulfonic acid, etc.), basic catalysts (eg, dimethylaminoethanol, etc.), or metal alkoxides (eg, alkoxides of titanium, zirconium, aluminum, etc.). However, even when such compounds are used, curability, storage stability, coating film performance, etc. are insufficient, and improvements in these properties are strongly desired. That is, both acid catalysts and basic catalysts provide insufficient curing of the coating film, and furthermore, the chemical resistance and water resistance of the formed coating film are also poor. Also, when metal alkoxide is used,
The curing reaction rate of alkoxysilane-containing polymers is too fast and their storage stability is poor, so the time (pot life) from mixing the metal alkoxide to use (painting) is short, making it difficult to paint. Moreover, the metal alkoxides are expensive, and most of them are chromatic, making them unsuitable for light-colored finishing, and the smoothness of the coating film deteriorates. Therefore, in view of this situation, the inventors of the present invention
As a result of extensive research to improve the curability, storage stability, coating performance, etc. of alkoxysilane-containing polymers, we have found that by using a specific aluminum chelate compound as a curing agent, the various properties described above can be improved. The inventors discovered that the defects of the invention can be overcome and completed the present invention. That is, the present invention is characterized in that an aluminum chelate compound having no hydroxyl group or alkoxy group is blended as a crosslinking reaction curing agent into a polymer containing 3% by weight or more of a compound represented by the following general formula. curable composition. (In the general formula, R 1 is hydrogen or a methyl group,
R 2 is a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, R 3 is a hydrocarbon group having 1 carbon number
~10 hydrocarbon groups, R 4 is OR 3 and/or
It is a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms. ) regarding. First, the alkoxysilane-containing polymer in the present invention is a polymer of alkoxyacrylic silane represented by the above general formula or a copolymer with other monomers. In the alkoxyacrylic silane represented by the above general formula, -R 2 - (having 1 to 5 carbon atoms)
(hydrocarbon groups) include, for example, methylene group, ethylene group, propylene group, 1,2-, 1,3-,
There are 2,3-butylene groups, tetramethylene groups, pentamethylene groups, etc., and -OR 3 (R 3 is a carbon number of 1 to
10 hydrocarbon groups), for example, methoxy group,
Ethoxy group, propoxy group, butoxy group, pentoxy group, etc. are suitable. Further, R 4 is partially or entirely the same as the above-mentioned -OR 3 or is a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms. Specifically, for example, acryloxyethyltrimethoxysilane, methacryloxyethyltributoxysilane, acryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane,
methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane, methacryloxypropyltri-n-butoxysilane,
Examples include acryloxytetramethylenetrimethoxysilane, methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane, and among these, acryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane, methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane, and methacryloxypropyltri-n-butoxysilane are particularly preferred. . The alkoxysilane-containing polymer in the present invention is a copolymer of one or more polymers selected from the above-mentioned alkoxyacrylic silanes, or one or more selected from the alkoxyacrylic silanes and another polymerizable monomer. It is a polymer that has been made to last. Other polymerizable monomers include, for example, alkyl acrylates (having 1 carbon number
~20) Esters, alkyl (1 to 20 carbon atoms) esters of methacrylic acid such as methyl methacrylate, ethyl methacrylate, propyl methacrylate, butyl methacrylate, 2-ethylhexyl methacrylate, tridecyl methacrylate, lauryl methacrylate, hydroxy Hydroxyl group-containing polymerizable monomers such as ethyl acrylate, hydroxyethyl methacrylate, hydroxypropyl acrylate, and hydroxypropyl methacrylate; glycidyl group-containing polymerizable monomers such as glycidyl acrylate and glycidyl methacrylate; acrylamide, methacrylamide, propylacrylamide, butylacrylamide, diacetone acrylamide; , amide polymerizable monomers such as N-methylolacrylamide, styrene, styrene derivatives, vinyl acetate, vinyl isobutyl ether,
Examples include, but are not limited to, acrylonitrile and divinylbenzene. In the present invention, as the alkoxysilane-containing polymer, compared to a polymer consisting only of alkoxyacrylic silane, a polymer copolymerized with other polymerizable monomers is superior in terms of the physical performance of the formed coating film. The proportion of both to be polymerized is not particularly limited, but based on the total weight of both,
Alkoxyacrylic silane 3% or more, especially 10-30
%, other polymerizable monomers 97% or less, especially 90-70%
A range of is preferred. These polymers can be produced by conventional methods and conditions, and their number average molecular weights are preferably in the range of about 3,000 to 10,000. Next, it is necessary that the aluminum chelate compound used in the present invention has no hydroxyl group or alkoxy group in its molecule. because,
If hydroxyl or alkoxy groups are contained, the curing reaction rate of the alkoxysilane-containing polymer will be too fast, and the time from mixing them to use will be short, making it difficult to control the coating, which is undesirable. Moreover, the smoothness of the coated surface deteriorates. That is, the aluminum chelate compound used in the present invention is one in which a ligand (chelating agent) having two coordinate sites with oxygen as a coordinating atom is coordinated to aluminum, and does not have a hydroxyl group or an alkoxy group. It is. The ligand is preferably one that volatilizes at room temperature (80°C or lower), and specifically, diketones such as methyl acetoacetate, ethyl acetoacetate, acetylacetone, dimethyl malonate, diethyl malonate, Examples include ketoesters, and in the present invention, it is particularly preferable to use those in which these ligands are 6-coordinated with trivalent aluminum. These aluminum chelate compounds can be easily produced. For example, when using ethyl acetoacetate as a ligand, they can be obtained by reacting aluminum isopropylate with ethyl acetoacetate. The above-mentioned alkoxysilane-containing polymer and aluminum chelate compound are uniformly compatible in a fairly wide range of ratios, but in the present invention, the blending ratio of the aluminum chelate compound is determined based on the solid content ratio of 100% of the alkoxysilane-containing polymer. A range of 0.1 to 100 parts by weight, preferably 10 to 50 parts by weight, is suitable. If it is less than 0.1 parts by weight, the curability of the coating film will be insufficient, and if it is more than 100 parts by weight, unreacted aluminum chelate compounds may remain in the coating film, which may reduce the gel fraction (curability). The composition of the present invention can be obtained by mixing both of the above components, and when mixing these, it is possible to use a common organic solvent for paints. A stopper, coating surface conditioner, etc. may be added as necessary. The curable composition according to the present invention is particularly suitable for use as a coating material. That is, the storage stability of the curable composition according to the present invention, which is a mixture of the alkoxysilane-containing polymer and the aluminum chelate compound, is superior to that of the curable composition containing the metal alkoxide. ~
Almost no increase in viscosity was observed even after approximately 48 hours at 30°C. Therefore, the coating process of the composition can be controlled extremely easily. The curability of the coating film formed by applying this composition is significantly superior to that of the coating film containing the above-mentioned acid catalyst and basic catalyst. properties, weather resistance,
Water resistance and chemical resistance have also been improved. Although the crosslinking reaction curing mechanism of the coating film formed by applying the composition of the present invention has not been fully elucidated, firstly,
The alkoxysilane based on alkoxyacrylic silane in the alkoxysilane-containing polymer reacts with moisture in the air (hydrolysis) to generate silanol groups. At this time, the aluminum chelate compound seems to act as a catalyst to promote this hydrolysis reaction. Next, the silanol group and the aluminum chelate compound react to form -Si
It is presumed that the alkoxysilane-containing polymer is crosslinked and cured by forming -O-Al-O-Si- bonds. Although this curing reaction is a reversible reaction, the curing reaction proceeds rapidly as the chelating agent of the aluminum chelate compound produced as a by-product is volatilized from the coating film. Therefore,
As the chelating agent for the aluminum chelate compound, it is preferable to use one that volatilizes at room temperature (80° C. or lower). Further, the composition of the present invention is preferably used mainly as a paint that dries at room temperature (80°C or lower), and the humidity in the air at that time should be about 30% or more in order to quickly carry out the curing reaction. is desirable. Next, examples and comparative examples of the present invention will be described. Example 1 Methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane 20
200 parts by weight of a toluene solution containing 50% solids of a copolymer (number average molecular weight approximately 30,000) made by copolymerizing monomer components consisting of 40 parts by weight of styrene and 40 parts by weight of n-butyl acrylate, 30 parts by weight of tris (acetylacetate) was added and mixed uniformly. Example 2 A xylene solution with a solid content of 50% by weight of a copolymer (number average molecular weight approximately 15,000) obtained by copolymerizing monomer components consisting of 10 parts by weight of acryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane and 90 parts by weight of n-butyl methacrylate. 50 parts by weight of aluminum tris (acetylacetone) was added to the parts by weight and mixed uniformly. Example 3 Solid copolymer (number average molecular weight approximately 7000) obtained by copolymerizing monomer components consisting of 30 parts by weight of methacryloxypropyltri-n-butoxysilane, 35 parts by weight of methyl methacrylate, and 35 parts by weight of n-butyl acrylate. min 50% by weight toluene solution
10 parts by weight of aluminum tris (methyl acetoacetate) was added to 200 parts by weight and mixed uniformly. Comparative Example 1 The same procedure as in Example 1 was carried out except that 30 parts by weight of aluminum tris(acetylacetate) in Example 1 was replaced with 5 parts by weight of dimethylaminoethanol. Comparative Example 2 Example 3 except that aluminum tris (methyl acetoacetate) in Example 3 was replaced with ethyl acetate aluminum diisopropylate.
I did the same thing. Comparative Example 3 The same procedure as in Example 1 was carried out except that 30 parts by weight of aluminum tris(acetylacetate) in Example 1 was replaced with 5 parts by weight of para-toluenesulfonic acid. Performance Test Results The compositions obtained in the Examples and Comparative Examples were tested for their storage stability and the performance of the coating films formed by applying them, and the results are shown in Table-1.
