Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve a cushioning effect and to reduce the cost by manufacturing cushioning material for protecting an article, which is used in placing weighty goods or fragile article on the floor surface, by boundling a lot of thermoplastic resin small tubes into a rod and fusing and connecting the small tubes to each other at both end portions thereof. CONSTITUTION:Hollow small tubes 1 made of thermoplastic resin such as chloroethylene, polyethylene, or the like are bundled into a rod, binding same by a string a ribbon or the like 2' or grasping same by a machine chuck, fusing the bundled small tubes 1 by a heating element such as a burner flame, a heating wire or a heating plate 6, and cutting same to a suitable length. Subsequently, the fused portion of a fusing section 7 is cooled by water cooling or natural air cooling and solidified. Thus, the small tubes are connected to each other and united in a body at both ends thereof to obtain a cushioning material united like a rod. The thus formed cushioning material has high elasticity, so that the occurrence of a crack of an article to be cushioned can be reduced and water resistance can be improved.

This invention involves binding a large number of thermoplastic resin thin tubes, such as hollow thin tubes of vinyl chloride, polyethylene, etc., into a rod shape with a string or the like or holding them with an appropriate holding member, and then attaching both ends of the bundled thin tubes to a burner flame or electric current. After melting and cutting with a hot wire or electric heating plate, etc., the molten part of the molten cross section is cooled and solidified by water cooling or natural air cooling, and the ends of the thin tubes are fused to connect and connect the thin tubes, This is a buffer material in which a large number of thin tubes are integrally formed into a rod shape, and a method for manufacturing the buffer material.

This invention will be explained based on the drawings. A large number of thermoplastic resin tubes 1 are bundled into a rod shape, and a string, ribbon, etc. 2
The thin tubes 1 bundled into a rod shape are then tied together or held in a machine chuck, and then melted and cut into appropriate lengths using a heating element such as a burner flame 4, heating wire 5, or heating plate 6. (See FIGS. 3A, B, and C) Thereafter, the molten portion of the molten cross section 7 is cooled by water cooling or natural air cooling, and is solidified. At that time, the molten parts of the ends of the thin tubes 1 are fused together in the melting process by the hot body, and then cooled and solidified, so that the thin tubes are connected and integrated at both ends, which are the fused parts, and the thin tubes are bundled into many rod shapes. becomes a rod-shaped integrated cushioning material.

The central portion in the longitudinal direction of the cushioning material of the present invention may be left bound with strings 2, ribbons 2', etc. to prevent it from unraveling, or may be covered with tubes 8 (second (see A, B, C in the figure) is
If the length is short, there is no need to tie it. In addition, the structure of the molten cross section is that the thin tubes are fused together in a honeycomb shape with all or part of the boundary part fused together, as shown in the partially enlarged view shown in Fig. 4, or that the molten resin is fused to the molten cross section as shown in Fig. 5. It is sufficient that the tubules are fused and connected to each other, such as those formed in the form of a membrane, or a combination of the two and partially formed into a honeycomb shape and a membrane shape. If the melted surfaces are not completely fused and connected after being fused and cooled by a hot body, the fused surfaces are further heated with a flame, a hot plate, etc. to achieve complete fusion and connection.

A preferred example is a synthetic tatami surface thin tube, that is, a commercially available polypropylene base material with an outer diameter of 1 to 2 mm and a wall thickness.
The cushioning material of the present invention is made by bundling a large number of thin tubes of 0.03 to 0.1mm, forming a rod shape with an outer diameter of about 100mm, and cutting it to a desired length. This material can be used as a cushioning material when transporting furniture, etc. The cushioning material has appropriate elasticity and is resistant to scratches on furniture, etc. At this time, the material, size, number of bundled tubes, etc. of the thin tubes can be arbitrarily designed so as to have appropriate elasticity against the object to be cushioned. Note that solid thin wires may be mixed in order to strengthen elasticity and rigidity, or a highly rigid pipe, rod, etc. may be used as the core material, and thin tubes may be arranged around the core material.

As another embodiment, the cushioning material of the present invention may be formed to have an outer diameter of approximately 10 to 50 mm, and an appropriate number of these may be bundled to form a cushioning material with a desired cross-sectional shape, and the shape may be arbitrarily designed.

This invention is constructed as described above, and it is possible to obtain a rod-shaped, integrally structured cushioning material by simply cutting off a bundle of long thermoplastic resin thin tubes at arbitrary lengths using a heating element, and moreover, it is possible to obtain a cushioning material having a rod-like integral structure. Since it is made of thin tubes, it is highly elastic and causes very few scratches on the cushioned article.
