Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable management of sectors on a track without seeking to a management track by providing the same number of flag areas as the number of sectors in a track to record the state of each sector on the track which contains plural number of sectors as the units of reading and writing. CONSTITUTION:When data is written in a sector S0, completion of writing is recorded in a flag area F0 corresponding to the sector S0 in a sector S68. When data is written in a sector S1, completion of writing is recorded in the corresponding flag area F1 in the sector S68. This process is repeated to when data is written in a sector S67, completion of writing is recorded in the corresponding flag area F67 in the sector S68. By this method, on writing in sectors S0, S1,..., S67, overwriting in sectors in which information is already written can be prevented by reading out the information from corresponding flag areas F0, F1,..., F67 in the sector S68. Thus, management of sectors on a track can be performed without seeking to a management track.
