Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a recording fluid which can give a print of excellent ozone resistance by mixing a specified compound with a water-soluble dye and an aqueous medium. CONSTITUTION:0.5-10 wt. % compound of formula I (wherein X is -NH-, -NHCONH- or a group of any one of formulas II-V; and M is Li, Na or NH4) is mixed with 0.2-12 wt. % water-soluble dye being an azo, anthraquinone or phthalocyanine direct or acid dye (e.g. C.I. Direct Black 154), 63-98.8 wt. % aqueous medium (containing, e.g. ethylene glycol) and optionally 0.5-20 wt. % surfactant, and the pH is adjusted to 6-8.

In recent years, water-based inks have been mainly used in inkjet recording systems due to odor, fire hazards, and safety concerns. These water-based inks have appropriate physical properties such as viscosity and surface tension: they do not clog the nozzle, have excellent storage stability, and have high density of colored images, light resistance, Properties such as excellent water resistance and ozone resistance are required.

As the coloring material in such water-based inks, water-soluble dyes are used because the liquid medium is water-based, and among the above basic requirements, water resistance is almost satisfied.

When a water-soluble dye is used, it is inherently inferior in light resistance and ozone resistance compared to carbon black or pigments, so some kind of protective agent is required. For this reason, the addition of ultraviolet absorbers, antioxidants, or 02 quenchers, for example, has been considered.
