Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the automatic dip soldering of lead legs even if the lead foot is bent nearly at a right angle by a method wherein a first step which supports a light emitting section and a second step which is used for bending the lead legs at prescribed positions are provided. CONSTITUTION:A holder 5 is provided with a first step 5f which supports a light emitting part 1a of a luminous display element 1 provided with lead legs 1b kept upright at soldering and a second step 5h which is used for bending the lead legs 1b at prescribed positions after soldering. That is, the first step 5f of the holder 5 mounts and supports the light emitting section 1a and the lead legs 1b are soldered in this state through an automatic dip soldering method. Therefore, the lead legs do not hinder a hanger, and the light emitting section 1a is protected against contamination by flux. The lead legs 1b are easily bent nearly at right angles at a corner of the second step 5h, and the light emitting section 1a is installed on the end side of a printed circuit board 2. By this setup, even if a luminous display element is provided with its lead legs bent nearly at right angles and arranged proximate to a board, it can be easily soldered through an automatic dip soldering method.

2. Description of the Related Art In electronic devices such as video tape recorders (VTRs), light emitting display elements such as LEDs are often used in display panels and the like. In these electronic devices, the exterior panel and the printed circuit board are often arranged not in parallel but perpendicularly, but in this case, the light emitting display element disposed on the printed circuit board is placed on the exterior panel. In order to illuminate the display at a position close to the display, a light emitting display element whose lead legs are bent at right angles is soldered to a printed circuit board.

FIGS. 6 and 7 are diagrams showing such a conventional configuration, in which a light emitting display element 1 such as an LED having a light emitting part 1a and two lead legs 1b is mounted on a printed circuit board 2. As shown in FIG. 6, the lead leg 1b is bent in advance at a substantially right angle at a predetermined position.

As shown in FIG. 7, for example, a holder 10 is attached to the printed circuit board 2 by snap-in fitting or the like.
The light emitting display element l is supported by its lead leg 1b.
The lower end of the printed circuit board 2 was connected and fixed to a predetermined conductor pattern by solder 3. In FIG. 7, reference numeral 4 denotes an exterior panel, and 4a denotes a display window thereof, with the light-emitting section 1a of one light-emitting display element 1 facing the exterior panel.

By the way, the above-described conventional mounting structure for the light emitting display element 1 has a problem in that it is difficult to connect the lead legs 1b of the light emitting display element 1 to the printed circuit board 2 by auto dip soldering.

This is because when the printed circuit board 2 and the exterior panel 4 are disposed orthogonally as described above, the display window portion 4 of the exterior panel 4
The light-emitting display element 1 for illuminating the light-emitting display element 1 will necessarily be positioned at the end of the printed circuit board 2, and furthermore, the light-emitting part 1a of the light-emitting display element 1 will be located outside of the lead leg 1b. This is because it often gets in the way of the hanger for auto-dip soldering. Furthermore, since the light emitting section 1a is too close to the end of the printed circuit board 2, there is a problem that the light emitting section 1a becomes dirty with flux during auto-dipping, resulting in darkness.

In order to achieve the above-mentioned objects, the present invention provides a light emitting display element comprising a light emitting part and lead legs, a printed circuit board to which the lead legs of the light emitting display element are soldered, and a light emitting display element attached to the printed circuit board. In the light emitting display device, the holder includes a first step part for supporting the light emitting part of the strange light display element with the lead leg standing upright during soldering. and a second stepped portion for bending the lead leg at a predetermined portion after soldering.

The first stepped portion of the holder places and supports the light emitting part of the light emitting display element with the lead legs standing upright, and the lead legs are auto-dipped soldered in this state. Therefore, during the soldering process, the light-emitting display element can be kept relatively far from the edge of the printed circuit board, so it does not get in the way of the hanger for auto-dipping, and the light-emitting part is not contaminated by flux during auto-dipping. There is no longer any risk of being caught. Further, after soldering, the upright lead leg is easily bent, for example, at a substantially right angle, using the corner portion of the second step provided at a predetermined height position as a bending point, and the light emitting portion is folded into the printed circuit. It will be positioned on the edge side of the board.

Reference numeral 5 denotes a holder made of synthetic resin for holding the light emitting display element 1, and as shown in FIG. is formed. The mounting leg portion 5b is attached to the base portion 5.
The attachment leg portion 5 is formed by hanging at the tip of the wing portion 5e, which is composed of a horizontal portion 5e-1 extending horizontally outward from both sides of the wing portion 5e-1, and a hanging portion 5e-2 hanging down from the horizontal portion.
A claw 5b-1 is formed at the tip of b. Then, by bending and inserting the mounting leg portion 5b into a mounting leg insertion hole (not shown) drilled in the printed circuit board 2, the stepped portion of the claw 5b-1 is placed on the back surface of the printed circuit board 2. The holder 5 is prevented from being pulled out and abuts against it, and the holder 5 is attached to the printed circuit board 2 by this so-called snap-in fitting.

As described above, according to the present invention, in the final product state, the lead legs of one light-emitting display element are bent at a substantially right angle, and the light-emitting part is located at the end of the printed circuit board and close to the exterior panel. Even in a configuration where this is necessary, auto-dip soldering of a light emitting display element can be easily carried out, which has the remarkable effect of improving productivity and reducing manufacturing costs.
