The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing animal excreta litter. Conventionally, materials made from crushed ores such as zeolite or grasses such as alpha alpha have been used as excretory bedding materials for animals, especially pets kept indoors. In addition, as bedding material made of paper, it has been proposed that water-soluble or water-dispersible paper be dispersed in water and then dehydrated or formed into pellets and dried (Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 1983-1999).
No. 2060, JP-A-55-132733, British Patent No.
No. 1513292). However, bedding made from zeolite is insoluble in water, so it is practically impossible to dispose of it in a flush toilet after use, and bedding made from alpha-alpha and made into pellets absorbs water after use. It immediately loses its shape and becomes a slurry, which has the disadvantage of adhering to the animal's feet and contaminating the surrounding area. Furthermore, products made from water-soluble or water-dispersible paper have the disadvantage of requiring a large amount of energy for drying, since the paper dispersed in water is dehydrated and molded before drying. In order to compensate for these drawbacks, it has been proposed that a paper material is pulverized and then molded using a pellet mill (US Pat. No. 4,263,873). However, as a pellet mill, California Pellet Mill (California Pellet Mill)
is disclosed in the above patent specification, but since the die and rollers of the pellet mill using a vertical die, which is typical of this pellet mill, rotate, it is difficult to mold materials with light specific gravity such as paper materials, and it is difficult to mold materials with light specific gravity such as paper materials. The disadvantage is that those containing a large amount of water become dehydrated and are difficult to mold into desired shapes. The present invention has been made in view of the above-mentioned drawbacks of conventional animal excreta bedding materials, and it does not require dehydration during production, allows easy control of specific gravity through simple drying, and It is an object of the present invention to provide a method for manufacturing an animal excretion bedding material that is free from the above-mentioned drawbacks and has good urine absorption. The feature of the present invention is that 30 to 40% by weight of water is added to and mixed with a paper material that has been ground to a moldable level as a raw material, and the resulting mixture is extruded into a certain particle shape using a disc-type pellet mill. It is molded and then dried. The paper material used as a raw material in the present invention may be any material as long as it is highly water-absorbing, and a wide range of materials can be used, such as newspapers and waste paper. Therefore, there is no particular need to use water-soluble or water-dispersible paper unlike the previously proposed bedding materials. In the present invention, the above-mentioned paper material is pulverized to a size that can be molded, preferably 2 m/m or less, and 30 to 40% by weight, preferably about 35% by weight of water is added and mixed well. The pellets are extruded as they are using a disc-type pellet mill (also called a disc pelleter) and molded into a certain particle shape. In the bedding material according to the present invention, the absorption rate and absorption rate of excrement (urine) are influenced by its specific gravity. When the specific gravity is small, both the absorption rate and the absorption rate improve, but as the specific gravity increases, they decrease. According to the present invention, the specific gravity of the bedding material can be controlled by the amount of water added, and the specific gravity of the bedding material is preferably determined depending on whether or not the bedding material is used in contact with the feet of animals. When using the bedding material in direct contact with the animal's paws, the specific gravity should be increased to prevent the bedding material from adhering to the paws and scattering, even if the absorption rate and absorption rate of excrement decreases. When using the product without direct foot contact, reduce the specific gravity to increase the absorption rate and absorption rate of excrement. In other words, to reduce the specific gravity of the bedding material, it is better to increase the amount of water added, while to increase the specific gravity, it is better to reduce the amount of water added, but if the amount of water added is less than 30% by weight, the molding after drying will be difficult. When the specific gravity of the material exceeds 0.4, the absorption rate and absorption speed as a bedding material are significantly inferior, which not only impairs the properties of bedding materials made from papery material, but also causes the die part to deteriorate during extrusion molding. clogging occurs, making continuous molding difficult. On the other hand, the amount of water added is 40% by weight.
If the amount is higher, the specific gravity of the molded product after drying will be less than 0.2, making the bedding material more likely to be scattered by animal feet during use, and in addition, a lot of energy is required for drying after molding, which is disadvantageous in terms of cost. . Conventionally, various methods have been known for extrusion molding. For example, in the extrusion method using a screw, the paper material cannot be left in a fixed shape from the die even if the amount of water or glue added to the paper material is changed. It is difficult to extrude continuously, and the molding machine itself becomes hot due to frictional heat in the die, causing problems such as burning. In order to extrude the material to be molded from a die using rolls and pelletize it, the California pellet mill has a die that rotates in a vertical plane and two fixed rollers that rotate inside the die while contacting the die. A typical example is a so-called disk-type pellet mill in which rollers and a fixed die are located on a horizontal plane, and several rollers rotate while contacting the inside of the annular die. The former is difficult to mold unless the moisture content of the molded material is approximately 25% by weight or less, and the problem is that the molded product has a high specific gravity of around 1, and can only be molded with extremely low water absorption capacity. The latter can be molded even at high moisture contents of 30-40% by weight, resulting in a molded product with a specific gravity of approximately 0.2-0.4 after drying and an absorption rate of excreta of 150-210% by weight, with Easy to process. As described above, according to the present invention, paper material is used as a raw material, and without the need for dehydration treatment,
It has the advantage of being able to continuously and efficiently produce animal excreta bedding that has good moldability, good absorption of excrement, and does not contaminate the surrounding area during use. EXAMPLES The present invention will be explained in more detail below by showing Examples together with Comparative Examples. Comparative example: Grind paper to 2 m/m or less using a pulverizer with double-edged rotary blades suitable for paper pulverization, add 35% water by weight to the paper, and then grind the paper into a die with a hole diameter of 7 m/m. was set up and extrusion molded using a vertical pellet mill and a horizontal pellet mill (disc pellet mill). Table 1 shows the specific gravity, shape, and molding stability of the molded products made by each pelleter.

[Table] Calculated by measuring the specific gravity.
The absorption rate is determined by adding 300g of water to 100g of dried molded material, filtering the water through a net after 10 seconds and 1 minute, measuring the amount of filtered water, subtracting the amount of filtrate from the amount of water added, and calculating the amount. The difference was defined as the amount of water absorbed by the molded product, and was expressed as the ratio of the weight of water absorbed to 100 g of the molded product.
