Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the lower tomographic image of the brain of a specimen by fixing the neck part of the specimen by means of a stationary upper plate and auxiliary plate constituted of a gamma ray absorbing material. CONSTITUTION:A gantry 8 is arrayed annularly with many radiation detectors 13 and is stacked with the detectors in 3 to 5 steps. A collimator 17 is provided on the outer side of the detectors 13 to decrease the incidence of background noises. A monkey 1 which is the specimen is placed to sit on the stationary lower plate 3 and is fixed by pinching the neck part with the notches 5, 6 of the stationary upper plate 4 and the auxiliary plate 7. The head part 10 of the monkey 1 is fed into a tunnel 9 of the gantry 8 and the gamma rays radiated from the head part 10 are detected by scintillators 14 of the detectors 13. The detected rays are amplified by a photoelectron amplifier 15 and are outputted. The heart 12 where the radiation releasing intensity is extremely high is masked by the stationary upper plate 4 and auxiliary plate 7 formed of the material which hardly allows the transmission of the gamma rays at this time and, therefore, the influence on the tomographic image of the head part 10 is decreased and the measurement down to the lower part of the brain of the animal having a short neck is possible.

However, as shown in Figure 3, conventionally the monkey (1), which is the subject to be measured, is ) is seated on this, and the neck part is fitted through the notch (5) of the acrylic fixed top plate (4), and then the notch (6) is inserted from above.
Narrow and fix with an acrylic auxiliary plate (7) having a In this state, as shown in FIG. 2, the head (10) of the monkey (1) is inserted into the channel (9) of the gantry (8) to measure the head sitting position.

"Problems to be Solved by the Invention" In the conventional head sitting position measurement, the head (10) of the monkey (1) is sandwiched between the fixed upper plate (4) and the auxiliary plate (7), resulting in a semi-fixed state, and the head position of the monkey (1) is semi-fixed. Since it does not rise above the shoulders, stable measurements are possible.

However, due to advances in brain research combined with the high resolution of CT equipment, there has recently been a demand for measurements of the lower part of the brain (near the base of the neck). However, because the monkey (1) has a short neck, the shield collimator (11), fixed upper plate (4), and auxiliary plate (7) at the bottom of the gantry (8) interfere with the effective view of the tunnel (9). There was a problem in that it was not possible to penetrate deep into the water, and it was not possible to take sufficient measurements. Although it is possible to enter the shield collimator (11) by removing the lower shield collimator (11), there is a problem that the gamma rays from the heart (12), which has a high gamma ray emission rate, enter the radiation detector (13) and deteriorate the measurement accuracy. There is.

``Means for Solving the Problems'' The present invention involves making a subject animal sit on a lower fixed plate, narrowing the neck between the upper fixed plate and an auxiliary plate, and fixing the animal's head inside the tunnel of a gantry. In the apparatus for obtaining tomographic images by entering the tunnel, the gantry excludes the shield collimator on the entrance side of the tunnel, and the gantry is arranged such that at least one of the fixed upper plate and the auxiliary plate acts as a shield collimator. It is made of absorbent material.

``Operation'' After the subject monkey is anesthetized or without anesthesia, it is seated on a fixed lower plate, and its neck is fixed with the fixed upper plate and auxiliary plate. In this state, the head is fixed inside the gantry tunnel and tomographic data is measured. Then,
The effects of gamma rays from the heart, which emit extremely high radiation intensity, on the head are prevented or reduced by the fixed upper plate and the auxiliary plate acting as shield collimators.
