Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a display system for picture data which is high in its processing efficiency and inexpensive by provided an expansion unit between a CPU and a frame buffer. CONSTITUTION:A central processing unit 1 reads the compressed picture data from an external storage device 2 through a data line 11 or receives the compressed picture data through a line 3, and transfers it to the expansion unit 4 through the data line 12. The expansion unit 4 expands the compressed picture data, and converts it into data writable in the frame buffer (FRB) 5, and transfers it through the data line 41. Thus, since the compressed data is expanded in the course of the transfer of the data to the FRB 5, the processing efficiency can be raised, and besides, since the data on the data line 12 is the compressed data, the bus of high performance need not be used as well.

ータの性質上データ量が膨大になる為、画像データを二
値データ又は多値データとして圧縮し外部記憶装置に保
存する方式を採用している0本データをFRBを通して
CRT上に表示するには、外部記憶装置から圧縮された
データを続出し、CPUで伸張するか又は特別な伸張装
置により伸張したデータをFRBに転送することにより
行われている。

の処理効率を高め、又CPUとFRBを結ぶバス上には
圧縮されたデータが転送される為、データ量が少なく安
価なバスを利用出来るという効果がある。
