Abstract

PURPOSE:To excellently improve the flowability of toner in a developing device by setting the actuation time of a stirring means in the developing device under an initial condition longer than at ordinary time when a new developing device is attached. CONSTITUTION:In the case of replacing the developing device 12, such as when the developing device 12 is replaced for the new one or when the developing device 12 having the toner of another color is attached in a device main body 1, a control part 23 receives a signal showing 'the absence of a developing device' from a detection switch 22 first. In such a case, the control part 23 generates a detaching signal, which is stored and held, so that the stirring member 32 in the developing device 12 is actuated under the initial condition before an image forming operation for a longer time than the ordinary time even when the new developing device 12 is attached thereafter and the signal showing 'the presence of a developing device' is outputted from the detection switch 22. Therefore, the toner T in the developing device 12 is thoroughly stirred and the flowability thereof is improved.

However, new developing devices and process cartridges have a problem in that toner inside them becomes uneven or aggregates due to vibrations during transportation, storage conditions, etc., resulting in high toner density. Moreover, even when the toner is installed in the main body of the apparatus, the toner aggregates and becomes denser. As a result, the fluidity of the toner in the developing device deteriorates, causing problems such as poor development, and problems such as erroneous detection by the means for detecting the remaining amount of toner in the developing device.

Therefore, a toner stirring means is provided in the developing device, and when the main power of the lid body is turned on, this toner stirring means is activated as one of the initial conditions before image formation, and the toner in the developing device is activated. The toner is stirred to give fluidity to the toner.

On the other hand, if the toner stirring means is operated for a long time every time the main power is turned on as an initial condition before image formation, the waiting time before starting work will be longer, and the toner stirring time will also be longer, resulting in toner fatigue. This results in problems such as the size of the disk becomes large and its performance deteriorates. In addition, in a small image forming apparatus, other equipment such as a photosensitive tram is rotated together with the toner stirring means, so operating the toner stirring means for a long time will reduce the durability of these equipment. There is also the problem of shrinking it.

(Invention or Section M to be solved) However, when a new developing device or process cartridge is installed in the main body of the device, the density of the toner in the developing device is large, so the toner is removed before image formation. Even if the stirring means performs normal stirring, the problem arises that the fluidity of the toner within the developing device cannot be sufficiently restored.

Further, a detection switch 22 consisting of a photointerrupter is attached to the developing device mounting portion 2, and the detection switch 22
By detecting the shielding plate 33 of the developing device 12, it is possible to detect that the developing device 12 is installed in the main body l of the apparatus. A signal from this detection switch 22 is transmitted to a control section 23 within the main body l of the apparatus.

Here, when turning on the main power source (not shown) of the main body l of the apparatus and starting image forming work, it is necessary to satisfy certain initial conditions before starting the work. One of these initial conditions is the operation of the stirring member 32 within the developing device 12.

This is because there is generally a considerable time lag between when the main power is turned on and the next time the main power is turned on, so the toner T in the toner hopper 31 of the developing device 12 also aggregates and densifies due to its own weight and flows. If the stirring member 32 is activated suddenly during image formation, the toner T in the toner hopper 31 or the developing roller 30 may be damaged.
This is because there is a problem that the liquid is not sufficiently stirred and moved toward the . That is, prior to image formation, the stirring member 32 is operated for a predetermined period of time in response to a signal from the control section 23, thereby increasing the fluidity of the toner T.

In addition, open the front door of the main body of the device and clean the jam or remove the developing device 12.
Even when the developing device 12 is replaced, etc., the agitating member 32 is activated as an initial condition before the image forming operation, since vibrations etc. are applied to the developing device 12, leading to agglomeration of the toner T, etc.

Therefore, in the control section 23, when the signal from the detection switch 22 is switched from "developing device present" to "developing device not present", a removal signal is generated and stored in the memory. When a new developing device 12 is installed in the printer 1 and an image forming operation is to be started, the operating time of the stirring member 32 as an initial condition is maintained longer than in the normal case. For this purpose, a backup power source is provided in the control section 23 so that the # record removal signal can be stored and retained even if the main power source of the main body 1 of the apparatus is not turned on.

(Effects of the Invention) As is clear from the above description, according to the present invention, when the developing device is once removed from the apparatus main body and a new developing device is installed inside the apparatus main body, the agitation of the developing device under the initial conditions is improved. Since the operating time of the means is longer than usual, the fluidity of the developer can be sufficiently increased before the image forming operation, even in new developing devices in which the internal developer has a higher density of agglomeration than normal ones. It is possible to form an appropriate image using this developing device.

Further, since there is no need to constantly operate the stirring means for a long time under the initial conditions, problems such as fatigue of the developer do not occur.
