Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily place an opened original book in a correct position on a contact glass and to eliminate the possibility of misoperation by providing a second reference position setting index displaceable in an original scanning direction so as to set a second reference position according the size of an original. CONSTITUTION:The left edge of the contact glass 10 is an original placing reference position 11(first image forming start reference position); a guide bar 14 is provided along the rear edge of the contact glass 10 in the original exposing/scanning direction, and the setting index 15a of the second image forming start reference position 15 is slidably provided on the guide bar. The second reference position 15 is not determined by the size of a paper, but is determined by the rear end of an original on the first reference side, (that is, the position of the binding part of a book which is opened and placed in alignment with the first reference position 11). Since the second reference line does not enter any original surface, image missing and deviation can be evaded.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a double-sided copying machine that can make copies on both sides of a sheet of paper in the same page order and in the same left-right arrangement as the original book. When copying multiple consecutive pages from a book as a manuscript, the common method with a single-sided copying machine is to copy the left and right pages of a double-page spread and bind the edges of the original. It takes a lot of work to shift the page, and it takes a lot of work especially for pages on one side because the binding section has to be aligned with the reference position (one edge of the contact glass). To avoid this hassle, copy both pages of the spread onto two-page paper at once, fold the copy paper in half with the copy side facing out, and bind the paper with binding on the opposite side of the fold. In this case, the order of the pages does not change, but the pages on the left and right sides of the original spread are turned front and back in the copy, and the binding direction is reversed. Therefore, in manuscripts with figures and tables that take up the entire left and right pages of a double-page spread, or with horizontally long titles, this is inconvenient because the manuscript will be divided into front and back pages.

Therefore, automatic double-sided copying machines are used to make double-sided copies of one page at a time in page order, but this requires the hassle of shifting the opened original on the contact glass and aligning one page with the binding section. is the same as the one-sided copy described above. In addition to copying left, right, left, right every time you turn a page, you can first copy only the left page, stack them all on the automatic duplex copying buffer tray, and then copy the right page. There is a method of copying the one-sided copy on the back side of the paper later, but it does not change the number of steps.

Therefore, I used an automatic duplex copying machine to copy two pages of a double-sided spread onto one side of a sheet of paper, and then repeated the pages to copy the second page of the next spread.
Consider copying a page to its back. If the original document is as shown in Figure 1 (a), the left page of the first spread is a margin and the right page is 1 page, and the next spread is 2 pages on the left and 3 pages on the right. When copying, as shown in figure (b), the front side will have a margin on the left and page 1 on the right, and the back side will have a margin of 3 pages and 1 page.
The back of the page will be 2 pages. If you fold this in half, it will be 1 page,
The order is 2nd page, 3rd page, and the margins. If this is all there is, there is no problem, but if there are many pages, copy using this method and bind the folds.
1, 2, 3, margin, 5, 6, 7, 4, 9, 10, l1,
8, etc., the page order is out of order and cannot be folded when double-sided copying is performed.

Therefore, by opening the original document, placing it on the contact glass, copying each page on both sides to the front and back of one sheet of paper or the front and back of another sheet of paper without shifting the original, and binding them together, the page order can be adjusted. A double-sided copying machine capable of matching the left and right arrangement with the original is disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 51-36951. In this copying machine, the contact glass is divided into two sides, A and B. Place the open document with the binding section A, aligning it with the index that indicates the dividing line on page 82, and when copying either the left or right page, press one edge of the contact glass as usual to start image formation. If you image the area up to the above dividing line as the reference position, and copy the other page, use the above dividing line as the second reference position to image the remaining area. The latter side is copied onto the back side of the copy and outputted, and the latter side is copied onto the front side of the next sheet and stacked on the sofa sofa tray. Deciding which reference position to start image formation from requires selecting each page of the document using the selection dial and then pressing the copy button, which is extremely troublesome and prone to operational errors. By the way, there are two types of books: right-hand binding (generally vertical writing in Japanese) and left-hand binding (horizontal writing in European and Japanese languages). The right-hand binding book is as shown in Figure 2 (a).
As shown in Figure 2 (b), the left-hand binding book is the beginning of the door page or chapter from the page on the left when the cover is opened, and the pages on the left are odd-numbered pages and the pages on the right are even-numbered pages. As shown, on the contrary, the right-hand pages are odd-numbered pages and the right-hand pages are even-numbered pages.

Further, the reference position for starting image formation (original document placement reference position during normal copying) of the contact glass of a copying machine is not unified, as it may be on the right side or on the left side.

Therefore, when two pages of a double-page spread are placed on the contact glass with the binding aligned with the dividing line on both sides of A and B as described above, for example, if the book is right-bound and the document placement reference is on the right side, then page 1 is placed on the contact glass. becomes the reference side, but when the left side reference is used, the previous page becomes the reference side, and one page starts from the second image forming reference position in the middle of the contact glass. The following is a table showing the relationship between the binding direction of the original and the image formation start reference positions of the left and right pages of the spread based on the left and right sides of the document placement reference.

Now, let us explain the procedure using Figure 3, taking as an example the case where a right-bound book is copied on both sides using a double-sided copying machine with the left-hand side reference to make a copy with the same page arrangement as the original.(1) Page 1 is imaged from the middle. If the last page is an odd number, a single-sided copy is made, or when copying in double-sided mode, even-numbered pages are output as blank copies without image formation. (Depending on the device, it is also possible to directly discharge from the buffer tray.

) As described above, the selection order of the first and second image forming reference positions is reversed depending on whether the original is right-bound or left-bound. If the image forming reference position is changed each time using a selection dial, as is the case with other devices, it not only requires nerves to operate, but also causes errors in operation. In order to avoid this problem, the publication proposes placing the book upside down on the contact glass in the case of a right-bound original, but this goes against human habit. It is thought that there is a high possibility that when you pick it up to turn it over and put it down again, you put it in the opposite direction.

In order to improve this drawback, by first specifying the binding direction of the original once using the binding direction specification key, the program corresponding to the binding direction will be selected, and the program will be the same every time the original is turned over and placed on the contact glass. Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 54-29648 proposes a control method in which appropriate double-sided copying is automatically performed when a print button is pressed.

However, in this case as well, the intermediate reference position for starting image formation is fixed, so when opening the original and placing it on the contact glass, use the binding part of the original as an index that divides the contact glass surface into two. It is necessary to align and place the pages, which is not only time-consuming, but also tends to result in irregular positions for each page, making it difficult to avoid poor finish and roughness when the copies are bound.

The present invention solves the above-mentioned problems of the conventionally proposed double-sided copying machine for double-sided copying from book-type originals, and makes it extremely easy to place an open original on a contact glass in an accurate position. It is an object of the present invention to provide a double-sided copying machine that can easily control exposure scanning without causing a risk of erroneous operation in switching the image forming start position depending on the binding direction of a document.

By pressing one of the above binding direction designation keys 5 to specify the binding direction of the original, the selection order of the two image formation start reference positions when the original is placed once is set in the order adapted to the binding direction. is automatically selected, and when you press the copy button 4, the number of copies of one page specified by the copy number designation key 3 will be copied onto the back side of the paper that was previously copied on the front side and stacked in the buffer tray. The specified number of copies of the pages on the other side are copied onto the front side of the new paper and stacked on the buffer tray. For the first page, the paper is not stacked on the bath sofa tray, so when it is detected that there is no paper on the bath sofa tray, paper is fed from the normal paper feed tray, and for the last page, the operator By pressing a separate final print button (not shown), the paper is ejected without being sent to the puffer tray. For example, as shown in Figure 5, if the book is right-bound and the size of the book is considerably smaller than the size of the transfer paper, the right end (left end on the contact glass) of the two-page spread of pages 2 and 3 is set as the first reference 1.

In the device of this embodiment, the first reference position 15 can be set at any position by the operator manually sliding the second reference position setting finger illS a along the guide 14. Therefore, the second reference position is not determined based on the paper size, but the rear edge of the first reference side original (that is, when the book is opened and placed with one side aligned with the first reference position 11 on the edge of the contact glass). The position of the book's binding section) can be determined as the second reference position. By doing this, the second group 1l! The lines will not cut into any of the document surfaces, and it is possible to avoid missing or skewed images. Furthermore, if the size of the original is smaller than the paper size, as shown in No. 6 @, by moving the second reference position 15 a little closer to the first reference side than the binding line of the original, both left and right pages have margins. can be moved to the binding section, making it easier to see even when the page is closed.

When copying two pages of a spread onto the front and back sides of separate sheets using this device, when printing from the first reference, only the length of the paper (in the conveyance direction) is created from the first reference, and the other parts are erase exposed. The static electricity is removed by the process and no image is formed. Similarly, when creating an image from the second reference, only the length of the paper is created from the second reference, and the other portions are erased. As a result, the scanner only needs to always scan the length of two sheets of paper from the first reference, which simplifies control, and prevents toner images from being formed on unnecessary areas, which reduces the load on the cleaning device and reduces toner usage. Waste can be avoided.

However, it goes without saying that it is also possible to change the imaging range by changing the scanning range of the scanner when copying the left-hand page and the right-hand page. Further, in the above embodiment, the second reference position is set using a moving index, but for example, as shown in FIG.
By establishing a [It is also possible to read the position of the binding part of the manuscript and input the second reference position using the number-of-copies-designating numeric keypad 3 to control image formation and paper feeding timing.

Furthermore, as shown in FIG. 8, if a thin plate 19 with a white back surface is attached to the second reference position setting indicator 15a so as to touch and cross the surface of the contact glass 10, the original can be placed on the contact glass. This prevents shadows caused by the V-shaped floating that sometimes occurs in binding sections from appearing on copies, and also prevents unsightly binding in that area when extra margins are created at the binding margin as described above. The eye can be prevented from being imaged.
