Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable accurate measurement of an actual clearance between a rotating shaft ad a supporting body by a construction wherein projections to be deformed plastically when a compression force is applied thereto are provided on the lateral side of a disk-shaped base of a shim for measuring clearance. CONSTITUTION:A shim 1 is constructed of a disk-shaped base 2 and three projections 3a to 3c provided on one lateral side 2a of the base, and a through hole 2b is formed in the central part of the base 2. The projections 3a to 3c are positioned on lines forming central angles of 120 degrees to each other and also are formed on circumferences different in the central radium respectively. By interposing a shim 1 between a rotating shaft and a supporting body and by assembling the rotating shaft and the supporting body temporarily, accordingly, the projections 3a to 3c are compressed to the dimension of a clearance between the rotating shaft and the supporting body and deformed plastically. Subsequently the shim 1 is taken out by removing the temporary assembling of the rotating shaft and the supporting body, and the dimensions between the rear side of the base of the shim 1 and the top faces of the projections 3a to 3c are measured. Thereby an actual clearance between the rotating shaft and the supporting body can be known accurately.
