Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the adhesive strength at low temp. by compounding an aq. acrylic resin emulsion wherein a (meth)acrylate is a main ingredient with a tackifier with a specified softening point. CONSTITUTION:An aq. emulsion type pressure-sensitive adhesive compsn. is obtd. by compounding an aq. acrylic resin emulsion (A) (wherein a 4-9C alkyl acrylate and a 10-12C alkyl methacrylate are main ingredients) with a tackifier (B) (with a softening temp. of 50 deg.C or lower, pref. 30 deg.C or lower and still pref. about 25 deg.C) (e.g. a rosin resin, terpene resin, etc.). The amt. of compounding of the ingredient B in terms of the solid content is 3-35 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. solid content of the ingredient A.

This type of acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive is generally a solvent type, but there are problems such as air pollution caused by the solvent, safety and hygiene, and solvent recovery. Water-based emulsion type acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesives are also used in some cases. This type of aqueous emulsion type generally contains a tackifier having a softening point of around 100°C.

In the present invention, as the (meth)acrylic acid alkyl ester which is the main component of the acrylic resin aqueous emulsion, acrylic acid alkyl esters generally have 4 to 9 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, and methacrylic acid alkyl esters generally have carbon atoms in the alkyl group. Those having a number of 10 to 12 are used.

In particular, adhesive polymers such as 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, and octyl acrylate can be formed with a relatively low glass transition temperature (approximately -50°C or lower).
Contains meth)acrylic acid alkyl ester as the main component, and contains acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, maleic anhydride, hydroxyethyl methacrylate, methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, vinyl acetate, acrylamide, and acrylonitrile as components to improve cohesion. An aqueous acrylic resin emulsion consisting of a copolymer copolymerized with a polymerizable monomer capable of forming a polymer having a relatively high glass transition temperature (about O''C or higher) is preferably used.

The tackifier to be added to the aqueous acrylic resin emulsion is a rosin resin, a terpene resin, a petroleum resin, etc., which are generally used in pressure sensitive adhesives, and have a softening point of 50°C or lower, preferably 30°C. Below, a temperature of around 25° C. is more preferably used. Such a tackifier can be made into a solution and mixed into the aqueous acrylic resin emulsion, but it is preferable to form an emulsion in advance and mix it into the aqueous acrylic resin emulsion.

The amount of the tackifier to be blended is preferably such that the solid content of the tackifier is in the range of 3 to 35 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the solid content of the aqueous acrylic resin emulsion. When the softening point becomes higher than 50°C or when the blending amount becomes less than 3 parts by weight, the effect of improving adhesive strength at low temperatures gradually decreases. In addition, when the blending amount exceeds 35 parts by weight, the adhesive performance gradually decreases (.

(Function) According to the present invention, since an aqueous acrylic resin emulsion containing (meth)acrylic acid alkyl ester as a main component is used, there will be no fire or environmental deterioration. By adding a tackifier with a softening point of 50°C or less to this,
Particularly, even at low temperatures, wetting to the surface of the adherend is improved and the contact area is increased, so that the adhesive strength, especially the adhesive strength at low temperatures, is improved.
