有無によつて表示する液晶表示装置において、文
字形状に配列した複数のセグメントを電極で構成
し、文字を表示するに必要な電極を上下共二分割
し、それぞれを透明基板を介して重ね合せる。上
下の電極に電圧を印加し、２分割した電極の合成
によつて１つの文字を形成し表示することを特徴
