Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the amount of emission of each dot of LED uniform and thereby to eliminate the occurrence of nonuniformity in density appearing in a print, by providing an LED drive timing control element which controls a drive time of each LED on the basis of the nonuniformity in the amount of the emission of each dot of the LED. CONSTITUTION:An LED print head has a lined-up LED array 4, an image data receiving element 3, an LED drive timing control element 2 and an LED driving element 1. The nonuniformity in the amount of emission of each dot of LED is classified beforehand, and the drive timing control element 2 is connected to an AND gate input terminal (a) of the LED driving element 1 through any one of drive lines A to C selected in accordance of a classification value. Thereby the drive timing control element 2 outputs to the LED driving element 1 an instruction to control a drive time to be long for LED connected thereto and having a small amount of emission and to be short for LED connected thereto and having a large amount of emission, and based on said instruction, each LED dot is driven in the LED driving element 1, so as to make the amount of emission uniform.

Conventionally, in order to achieve uniformity in the amount of light emitted by this type of LED array, the average amount of light between the LED arrays was made uniform by trimming the LED current limiting resistor.

The above-mentioned conventional current-limiting paper and trimming are aimed at making the average light intensity between the aligned LED arrays uniform, but not between each dot. For this reason, if there is a large variation in the amount of light emitted between each dot, there is a drawback that density unevenness in print quality will occur due to this.

Furthermore, if the trimming method was applied to each LED dot, the circuit size would increase, and this would not be effective in terms of cost.

In order to achieve the above object, an LED print head according to the present invention includes an array of aligned LEDs, and an LED print head according to the present invention.
It has an LED drive section that drives the D array, and an LED drive timing control section that issues a command to the LED drive section to control the drive time of each LED based on the variation in the amount of light emitted from each LED dot.

In the embodiment, the variation in the amount of light emitted by each LED dot is classified in advance, and the drive timing control section 2
The AND gate input input terminal of the drive unit 1 selects and connects one of the drive lines A, B, and C according to the classification value. As a result, the drive timing control unit 2 lengthens the drive time for an LED connected to a low light emission amount, and shortens the drive time for an LED connected to a high light emission amount. A control command is output to the LED drive unit 1, and the LED drive unit 1 drives each LED dot based on the command to equalize the amount of light.
