Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the life of a ribbon and to print beautifully without mixture of colors by mounting a head cleaning drum for removing contaminants of a printing head. CONSTITUTION:The printing area 2 of a platen in which a cleaning drum 1 impregnated with cleanser for cleaning the contaminant of a printing head is mounted has a sufficiently long width as compared with the width of a sheet. Normally, when a printing is conducted, it is printed within the area 2. After a printing is conducted for a predetermined period of time, the head is moved to the head cleaning area in which the drum 1 is mounted, and the contaminant of the head is removed by solid-printing. Then, the contamination of a ribbon is prevented, the life of the ribbon is increased, and a beautiful printing without mixture of colors can be executed.

Conventionally, when printing in color, this type of color serial printer switches to a ribbon of another color and continues printing regardless of whether the print head is dirty or not.

In the conventional color serial printer mentioned above, when printing in color, a small amount of ink from the ink ribbon adheres to the head, so when the next print is performed, the dirt is transferred to the ribbon, causing the ribbon and print results to be damaged. The drawback was that it didn't get dirty.
