Abstract

PURPOSE:To permit the formation of joint making portions without increasing the number of electric wires by bending each of intermediate parts of desired electric wires selected from plural electric wires into a U-shape and connecting an intermediate joint terminal to the end part of the bent wire led outside. CONSTITUTION:Each intermediate part of desired electric wires 111 to 114 selected from plural electric wires 11 forming the tank line portion 10 of a wire harness is bent into a U-shape to be led outside, so that an intermediate joint terminal 26 is connected to its led out end part. Each intermediate joint terminal 26 is insertedly secured in an intermediate joint terminal accommodation chamber 19, which each of crimp-style terminals 23 having crimped one end of each of bent wires 141, 142 prepared by bending one end part of each of the electric wires led out from the trunk line portion, is insertedly secured in a crimp-style terminal accommodation chamber 17. Then, a terminal pressure member is secured onto the back face of an insulated housing. Thus, one conjoining spot consisting the U-shaped bent wire 15 and the intermediate joint terminal 26 suffices to form a portion for connecting each electric wire to the corresponding terminal, permitting the formation of a joint making portion to be simplified.

A wire harness (wire assembly for an automobile) generally has a configuration in which a plurality of branch wire portions 2 are led out from a main wire portion 1 and a connector 3 is attached to the terminals of both portions 1 and 2, as shown in FIG. The main line part 1 is wired, for example, from the engine room through the cowl side toward the rear of the automobile, and the branch line part 2 extends toward the electrical components placed in each part, and the female connector 4 and the connector 3 are connected to each other. As shown in FIG. 7, the branch line section 2 consists of a bent line 6 that is simply bent at one end into a U-shape and led out from among the 5 groups of electric wires constituting the main line section 1, and a joint connection 8 to the electric wire 5. The connector 3 is formed by crimping a terminal fitting at the end of each wire and inserting it into an insulating housing.

The joint joint 8 in the conventional wire harness is
The intermediate insulation coating of the electric wire 5 is peeled off (skinned), and the end of the joint wire 7 is crimped and fixed to the exposed conductor in the same manner with a joint terminal, soldered if necessary, and then This requires a cumbersome process such as wrapping insulating tape around the joint to protect it. Therefore, the joint work takes time and effort, and the work cost increases as well as the cost of parts such as the joint terminal and insulating tape.

Moreover, if there is a joint joint 8 in the trunk section 1, the diameter becomes enlarged as shown in FIG. 8, making it difficult to perform the work of converging with the tape 9 and the work of disposing it on the vehicle body.

The joint absorbing connector 17 is assembled by inserting the crimp terminal 23 with the folding line 14 at the branch line I3 crimped into the crimp terminal accommodating chamber 20 of the insulating housing 1, while similarly inserting the U into the intermediate joint terminal accommodating chamber 19. Letter-shaped folding curve 15
This is accomplished by inserting the intermediate joint terminal 26 which has been pressed into contact with the intermediate joint terminal 26, fitting the terminal holding member 29 into the receiving portion 21 from behind, and engaging and locking the locking pawl 30 in the locking hole 22.

As shown in FIG. 1, since the wire harness W of the present invention does not have the conventional joint connection 8 (see FIG. 7) in the main wire portion 10, no enlarged bulging portion occurs.
The convergence work using the insulating tape 12 can be done easily, and a neat shape can be obtained.

Further, the joint absorbing connector 17 has a U-shaped folded line 15 led out from the main line portion 10 of the wire harness W.
The intermediate joint terminal 26 (26') is connected to the lead-out end of the intermediate joint terminal accommodating chamber 1 of the insulating housing I8.
It has a simple structure in which the terminal holding member 29 is inserted into the terminal holding member 9 and the terminal holding member 29 is attached from behind, and it is easy to assemble and manufacture. In particular, if the intermediate joint terminals 26, 26' and the electrical contact portions 24, 27 of the crimp terminals 23 have the same structure, each terminal housing chamber 19, 20 and the mating terminal can be shared. Furthermore, by using a press-contact type terminal such as the intermediate joint terminal 26, the connection to the U-shaped folded line 15 can be achieved with one touch, and the joint connection can be formed in a very simple manner.

As described above, according to the present invention, a joint joint in a wire harness can be formed without increasing the number of main wires, and a low-cost wire harness can be provided. In addition, since there is no joint joint in the main line, a wire harness with a smaller diameter and neater shape can be obtained, making it easier to bundle with insulating tape and install on the vehicle body. Furthermore, the joint connection only needs to be made at one location between the U-shaped folded line of the joint absorbing connector and the intermediate joint terminal, and a highly reliable electrical connection can be obtained.
