Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate a blurring, an irregularity at the initial printing and to largely extend a printing life by forming oblique grooves on the surface of a transfer roll for supplying ink in an ink storage member to an ink ribbon. CONSTITUTION:Ink 7 of an ink storage member 6 is moved and raised to an ink roller 5 by a capillary tube operation to move the ink to the surface of a transfer roll 4 from the contact part of the roll 4. Further, oblique grooves 8 are formed on the surface of the roll 4 thereby to move the ink 7 only to a flat part so that the ink does not spread over the groove to the whole roll 4. The ink 4 of the surface of the roll 4 is shifted from the contact part of the roll 4 and an ink ribbon 2 to the ribbon 2. In this case, the ink and the ribbon use conventional ones.

The method proposed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 55-65585, which consists of an ink pump mechanism using replenishment pulses and an ink replenishment control circuit, is an expensive device and is not practical.

The ink ribbon cassette proposed in Utility Model Application No. 56-17155, in which the ink pad and the ink ribbon are brought into contact and the ink ribbon is provided with holes on the outer surface of the cassette case for supplying ink to the ink pad, can be constructed at low cost, but it is difficult to connect the ink pad to the ink ribbon. The amount of ink replenishment is not constant, and the initial amount of ink replenishment becomes excessive, causing smearing of prints and ink stains on the printed paper. Further, since only about a fraction of the ink held by the ink pad is supplied to the ink ribbon, ink must be supplied from outside in a complicated manner.

The ink ribbon cassette proposed in Utility Model Application Publication No. 57-11053, which has an ink replenishment roller and a transfer roller and a notch around the rotating shaft of the ink replenishment roller that serves as an ink reservoir, does not require an external supply of ink. However, since the capacity of the ink reservoir is limited, the printing life can only be extended to a very small extent. Also, Utsukai Showa 56-17155
Similar to the method proposed in , the amount of ink replenishment from the ink replenishment roller to the ink ribbon is not constant, and the initial amount of ink replenishment is excessive, causing smearing of prints and ink stains on the printed paper. Furthermore, ink seeps into the ink ribbon cassette from the ink reservoir.

The ink ribbon cassette proposed in Utility Model Application Publication No. 58-5768, which consists of an ink replenishment roller, an ink ribbon, and a squeezing member that comes into contact with the ink ribbon and squeezes the ink and returns it to the ink replenishment roller, has a structure in which the amount of ink that can be squeezed out by the squeezing member is limited. Since the amount is very small, it has little effect on the initial excessive amount of ink replenishment. Also, the printing life is only slightly extended.

An ink ribbon cassette proposed in Japanese Utility Model Application Publication No. 59-26363, which has an ink ribbon, an ink roller that applies and supplies ink to the ink ribbon, and a pressing force adjustment mechanism that adjusts the contact pressure of the ink roller, is capable of adjusting the contact pressure. By lowering it, initial ink replenishment can be done properly, but
In the middle and high areas, even if the contact pressure is increased, the printing life will be extended only slightly, and the ink roller may malfunction or become deformed. Similarly to the method proposed in Japanese Utility Model Application No. 56-17155, when printing is stopped, a large amount of ink is supplied to the portion of the ink ribbon that is in contact with the ink supply roller, resulting in dark printing.

An ink ribbon cassette having an ink replenishment tlfI proposed in Japanese Utility Model Application Publication No. 60-19465 is an ink ribbon cassette that retracts the ink replenishment mechanism from the ink replenishment position when the carriage carrying the ink ribbon cassette is at the home position. Since the ink ribbon does not come into contact with the ink replenishment roller when printing is stopped, there is no waiting time for printing.

However, this increases the number of parts, leading to higher prices and larger sizes. In addition, similar to the method proposed in Japanese Utility Model Application No. 56-17155, the amount of ink refilled from the ink replenishment roller to the ink ribbon is not constant, and the initial amount of ink replenishment is excessive, resulting in smearing of prints and ink on the printed paper. Contamination occurs and printing life is only slightly extended.

Since the surface of the transfer roll 4 has diagonal grooves 8, the ink transfers only to the flat portions. Therefore, even when the printer is stopped, the ink does not flow over the grooves, so it does not spread over the entire surface of the transfer roll, and no standby stripes occur. Also, due to capillary force, the ink moves to the ink roll 5, rises, and reaches the ink roll 5. Impregnated throughout. The ink roll 5 is made of a porous member, and the porous member is formed by sintering powder of synthetic resin such as polyethylene or polypropylene, but is not limited thereto.
