Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve separating performance of a recording paper by providing a pre-transfer exposure lamp (PTL) switchable between ON and OFF in the front position of a transfer device and controlling a separating current supplied to a separating device so that the ratio of a DC component superimposing to an AC component of the separating current can be changed. CONSTITUTION:When the PTL 4 is turned on during a copying operation, the switch circuit 21a of a separating device power source 21 is switched by a controlling part 20 so that the DC component of the separating current (a high voltage alternating current) supplied to the separating device 7 increases in the positive side. Then the PTL 4 is turned off, the switch circuit 21a is switched so that the DC component of the separating current supplied to the separating device 7 increases in the negative side. As a result, separating the recording paper is constantly achieved with a simplified constitution either when the PTL 4 is turned on or off.

2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, there is an electrostatic recording apparatus in which a pre-transfer exposure rung (hereinafter referred to as PTL) is provided between a developing process area and a transfer process area at the periphery of a photoreceptor. The PTL consists of a light source such as a cold cathode discharge tube or a neon tube, and a filter provided in front of the light source if necessary, and irradiates the photoreceptor carrying the toner image with light having a wavelength that the photoreceptor is sensitive to.

The quality of the toner image transferred to the other side is degraded due to blurring and shading. This is because the toner electrostatically adheres to the photoreceptor; the adhesion force is weakened when the toner is irradiated with PTL.

Regardless of the OFF, the separation performance of the recording paper from the photoreceptor was insufficient, and the recording paper sometimes got jammed at the separation part. There was a problem in that a mechanical separation claw had to be provided outside the electrical separation device. Furthermore, it was observed that there was a difference in separation performance depending on whether the PTL was ON or OFF.

First, when a copy button on an operation panel (not shown) is pressed to start a copy operation, the photoreceptor 1 rotates in the direction of the arrow. The peripheral surface of the photoreceptor 1 has been uniformly erased from the charge by the pre-charging erasing lamp 10 and then uniformly charged by the charger 2. Therefore, as the exposure beam L is incident, the photoreceptor L is uniformly charged. , electrostatic latent images, such as a latent image on a document, are sequentially formed.

After that, the recording paper P is fed out one sheet at a time from a paper feed cassette (not shown), and the operation is performed based on a paper feeding timing signal so that the leading edge of the toner image on the photoreceptor L and the leading edge of the recording paper P are aligned. The paper is fed by the second paper feed roller 12 that rotates the paper. Thereafter, the toner image on the photoreceptor L is transferred onto the recording paper P by the action of the transfer device 6. The recording paper P separated from the photoreceptor l by the separator 7 is sent to the fixing device 8 via the conveying means 13, where the toner image is fused and fixed, and then ejected from the apparatus by a paper ejection roller.

Conventionally, in electrostatic recording apparatuses, as described above, a slight difference has been observed in the separation performance of the recording paper P from the photoreceptor l after toner image transfer between when the PTL is ON and when the PTL is OFF.
