Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable even an unskilled operator to fast input the instructed data and to improve the accuracy of recognition by preparing a reference pattern including plural segments which turn the characters to be inputted into the fixed forms and inputting characters after deciding a character pattern with use of those segments. CONSTITUTION:A reference pattern 100 includes grooves 1 - 28, and a character pattern is turned into a fixed form with combinations of grooves 1 - 28. An operator applies the characters to the pattern of a fixed form and traces the grooves in order to input these characters. In other words, the input characters can be recognized with combinations of grooves traced by the operator. As a result, even the operator can input the designated data in the same way as writing characters and with high accuracy.

Among the conventional methods described above, <1) has the disadvantage that it takes a very long time to input instruction data until the operator gets used to the keyboard, and the operating efficiency is very poor. Also (2)
Although input can be performed relatively quickly even by an inexperienced operator, the disadvantage is that there is a large degree of freedom in handwriting, and character patterns are often difficult to read or misrecognized.

The handwritten input recognition method of the present invention has a reference pattern including a plurality of line segments that regularizes characters to be input, and uses the line segments to determine a character pattern, and when inputting the characters. This is realized by detecting the character pattern and recognizing the character.

FIG. 2 is an explanatory diagram showing an example of a character pattern in which kana characters are standardized using the above-mentioned characters 1 to 28 as elements. The operator can input characters by matching them to a standardized pattern and crossing them out. In other words, input characters are recognized by the combination of grooves traced by the operator.
