Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a small and lightweight light emitting device which has resistance against vibration and impulse and which does not need exchange of batteries by charging a secondary battery with electric power from a solar cell and also switching off a light emitting device when the outer lid is closed, whereas when the outer lid is closed lighting a light emitting means using the secondary battery. CONSTITUTION:While an outer lid 11 is closed, a switch 4 is opened and a secondary battery 3 is charged with electric power generated by a solar battery 1. The switch 4 is closed by opening of the outer lid 11, and the electric power of the secondary battery 3 is converted to alternative current by an oscillating transistor 6, and voltage is raised to 100V by a step-up transformer 9 so that a fluorescent lamp 2 is lighted. While the outer lid 11 is closed, the fluorescent lamp 2 is pressed and protected by a cushioning material 14 and so will not be broken by vibration nor impulse.

[Problems to be Solved by the Invention] However, most conventional portable light emitting devices use dry batteries (flashlights that use incandescent bulbs have the disadvantage that batteries are rapidly consumed and require frequent battery replacement). Similarly, even battery-powered fluorescent lamps that consume relatively little electricity have the disadvantage of requiring battery replacement as the batteries wear out. Increased weight is a big problem, especially when climbing mountains.
