Generally, tubular bodies such as gas pipes and petroleum transport pipes are shipped with the pipe ends tapered in advance to make it suitable for welding the tubular bodies together.
If this tapered end is damaged during transportation, standardized welding cannot be performed, so a protective device is attached to the end of the tubular body.

By the way, as shown in FIGS. 8 and 9, the protective device is a metal protector 5 with a flange portion 3 extending along one side edge of the split ring member 1, which is inserted into the end of the tube body A. After being fitted into the circumferential surface, the wedge member 9 is forcibly pushed into the receiving portions 7, 7 provided opposite to each split portion of the ring member 1, and the ring member 1 is expanded and tightened. Since the holder is made of metal, it is not only necessary to bend it in advance according to the diameter of the tubular body, but also if the holder becomes rusty, there is a risk of damaging the end of the tubular body. If an accidental impact occurs, the wedge member may fall off from the holder, so there are drawbacks such as the need to form an appropriate locking part on either the wedge member or the receiving part of the holder. Ta.

Under these circumstances, a pipe end protector (1993) was developed in which a piece of sponge rubber tape was inserted between the outer periphery of the ring part and the inner wall of the tube to maintain the fitted state of the protector. −17763)
However, this type of protective equipment is not only time-consuming as it requires sticking pieces of sponge rubber tape at 2 to 6 locations in the circumferential direction of the ring part, but also because of the structure, the edge of the tubular body is made of metal. Problems were pointed out, such as the inability to prevent damage due to contact with parts.

Therefore, in order to overcome these shortcomings, the inventor made repeated improvements and prototypes, and as a result, the protector in the conventional device was replaced with a metal strap member with wedge-shaped member mounting receptacles on both ends of one side. Manufacture and handling will be easier if the contact member is made of embossed flexible synthetic resin and has a flange sufficient to cover the end of the tubular body. It has been found that it is possible to reliably protect the end edge of the tubular body.

The present invention provides an end protection device for a tubular body in which a protector having a flange portion is inserted into an end of a tubular body, and the protector is spread out and tightened using a wedge member. A metal band member of a predetermined size with wedge member attachment receiving parts provided at both ends, and a flexible synthetic resin metal band member that is slightly shorter than the metal band member and has an embossed shape throughout including the flange part. and an abutting member, and the abutting member is slidably attached to the other side of the band member.

That is, the protector 11 is provided with receiving portions 17, 17 for inserting the wedge member 13 at both ends of one side of a band member 15 of a predetermined length, and also has a receiving portion 17, 17 for inserting the wedge member 13.
It is constructed by providing an abutting member 21 having a flange portion 19 having a dimension slightly shorter than the length of the band member 15 on the other side. In this case, the contact member 21 is made by mixing and melting resin materials having different melting temperatures, such as a cross-linked product of polyethylene and polyethylene, and extruding this melted mixture under predetermined temperature and pressure conditions. As a result, the embossed surface 23 is formed of a flexible synthetic resin, and the flange portion 19 is provided to be slightly inclined inward (see FIG. 3).

Further, a groove 25 having a width slightly wider than the width of the band member 15 is formed on the side surface of the contact member 21 facing the flange portion 19 forming surface, and the band member 15 slides in this groove 25. On the other hand, as is clear from FIG. 4, the receiving parts 17, 17 of the strap member 15 are inserted so as to be movable (see FIG. 3). The metal band member 15 is formed by dividing it into three parts and cutting and bending the central part thereof, and the cut and bending parts 17a, 17a are formed in the widthwise direction of the band member 15 so as to match the edge inclination angle α of the wedge member 13. It is constructed by raising the surface at a predetermined angle β.

When protecting the end of the tubular body A with the protection device, first bend the abutment member 11 to protect the end of the tubular body A.

Next, when the wedge member 13 is inserted into the receiving portions 17, 17 provided at both ends of the band member 15 and is forcibly pushed in by hitting it with a hammer or the like, the band member 15 is pushed into the abutment member 1.
The contact member 11 is expanded by sliding in the circumferential direction in the groove 25 of the contact member 1, and the embossed surface 23 of the contact member 11 is brought into close contact with the inner surface of the tubular body A.
Note that in this state, there are some parts where the inner surface of the flange portion 19 and the end of the tubular body A are not in close contact with each other, so the outer side of the flange portion 19 is appropriately tapped in the axial direction of the tubular body A. Correct the inner surface so that it correctly covers the tube end all the way around. In this way, when the protective device is attached to the tubular body,
The wedge member is held in contact with the embossed surface of the abutting member at multiple points on one side (see the shaded area in Figure 4), and the part that comes into contact with the tubular body is also the embossed surface of the abutting member, so that the wedge member can be held securely. Furthermore, the end edge of the tubular body is reliably covered and protected by the embossed surface of the flange.

As mentioned above, according to the protective device according to the present invention, since the protective equipment is composed of a strap member and a contact member made of flexible synthetic resin attached to the strap member, it can be bent in advance. Since there is no need for processing, manufacturing becomes easy and manufacturing costs can be reduced. In addition, since the contacting parts, including the edges of the tubular body, are made of embossed synthetic resin material, not only can reliable protection and firm tightening be achieved, but also problems such as rust can be avoided. When the wedge member is forcibly pushed into each receiving part of the band member, this wedge member is held in contact with the embossed surface of the contact member at multiple points on one side, so it will not fall off even if an impact occurs. It has various advantages, such as eliminating the fear that it will occur, and its practical effects are extremely large.
