However, in order to use any of these functions, the destination telephone number must be registered in the device in advance by operating keys on the operation panel. Therefore, there is a problem in that the operator cannot easily use the above functions.

Upon receiving this, the control unit 3 activates the reading/scanning unit 1 to read the original, encodes the obtained image data in the encoder 2, modulates it in the modulation/demodulation circuit 41, and then scans the original. It is sent out onto line 5 via control circuit 42. By the way, if the operator wishes to use again the destination telephone number (held in the register) that was previously input using the full dial, the operator presses the memory button 812 shown in FIG. 2 before pressing the start button 813. Upon receiving this, the control section 3 stores the telephone number held in the register in the memory section 9. Next, if the operator wishes to make a call to the same destination as above, he presses the memory button 812 on the operation panel section 8. In response to this, the control section 3 reads out the telephone number held in the memory section 9 and displays it on the display section 82. When the operator presses the memory button 812 several times until the desired telephone number is displayed, other telephone numbers held in the memory section 9 are displayed on the display section 82 each time. The operator presses the start button 813 when the desired telephone number is displayed. In response to this, the control section 3 gives the telephone number currently displayed on the display section 82 to the dial signal generating section 43 of the transmitting/receiving section 4, and sends a dial signal corresponding to the telephone number via the network control circuit 42. A call is made by transmitting on line 5.

02, it is determined whether or not the memory button 812 has been pressed. If the memory button 812 has not been pressed, the process proceeds to step 403; if it has been pressed, the process proceeds to step 410. Here, if the operator wishes to use the telephone number stored in the memory section 9, he or she presses the memory button 812. In step 403, the telephone number inputted from the numeric keypad 811 is held in a register (not shown) or the like, and then the process proceeds to step 404, where it is determined whether or not the memory button 812 has been pressed. Here, the operator presses the memory button 812 if he/she wishes to reuse the telephone number that has been entered by full dialing. If the memory button 812 is not pressed, the process advances to step 405, and after confirming that the start button 813 has been pressed, the telephone number held in the register is given to the transmitting/receiving section 4.

On the other hand, if the memory button 812 is pressed, the process proceeds to step 407, where it is determined whether or not there is any free space in the memory section 9. If there is, the process proceeds to step 408, and if there is, the process proceeds to step 409. Step 408
After storing the telephone number held in the register in a free area of the memory section 9, the process advances to step 405. On the other hand, in step 409, a display message indicating that it cannot be stored in the memory is read out from a ROM (not shown) or the like and displayed on the display section 82, and the process proceeds to step 405.

425-84-3256 is displayed on the display section 82. Next, the process proceeds to step 412, and it is determined whether or not a clear button (not shown) provided on the operation panel section 8 has been pressed. If it has been pressed, the process proceeds to step 413, and if it has not been pressed, the process proceeds to step 414. Here, when the operator wants to erase unnecessary telephone numbers and then store a new telephone number in the memory section 9 when the memory section 9 is full, the operator presses the clear button. In step 413, the contents of address a in the memory section 9 are cleared, and then the process ends. In step 414, it is determined whether or not the memory button 812 has been pressed. If the memory button 812 has not been pressed, the process advances to step 405.
