Abstract

PURPOSE:To substantially avert the superposition of external noises onto reading out waveforms by fixing a slider side face and a suspension by an electrically conductive adhesive. CONSTITUTION:The slider 1 is adhered to the jimbal part 3 of the suspension 2 by an electrically nonconductive adhesive 4, for example, an adhesive of an epoxy resin system. Further, a fillet is formed by the electrically conductive adhesive 5 to reinforce the adhesion. The slider 1 and the suspension 2 are, therefore, conducted therebetween by a resistance value of about max. 100OMEGA. The suspension 2 is usually fixed to an arm by screwing or caulking, etc., and the arm is conducted to the housing of a disk drive; therefore, the potential of the slider is eventually stabilized at the same potential as the potential of the housing of the magnetic disk drive. The superposition of the external noises on the reading out waveforms is substantially prevented in this way.

[Prior Art] - Conventionally, the slider of a magnetic head was fixed to the suspension by adhering it to the suspension using a non-conductive adhesive such as epoxy resin, as shown in Fig. After the adhesive is bonded, a fillet is formed using the same type of adhesive to strengthen the bond.

The magnetic head slider is usually Aj2, 03, TiC, or M.
Materials with good conductivity such as n-Zn ferrite are used, but it has been found that highly conductive materials are susceptible to external noise when their potential is unstable, which affects the readout waveform of the magnetic head. Ta.

Next, an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. Referring to FIG. 1, a slider 1 is bonded to a gimbal portion of a suspension 2 with a non-conductive adhesive 4, such as an epoxy resin adhesive. Further, a fillet is formed at the position shown in the figure using the conductive adhesive 5 to reinforce the adhesion. As the conductive adhesive 5, one in which fine foils of silver or the like are dispersed in an epoxy resin is commercially available.

With the above configuration, conduction is established between the slider and the suspension with a maximum resistance value of about several hundred ohms. The suspension is usually fixed to the arm (not shown) by screws or caulking.

Since the arm is electrically connected to the casing of the magnetic disk drive, the potential of the slider 1 becomes stable and becomes the same potential as the casing of the magnetic disk drive, resulting in a structure in which external noise is difficult to superimpose on the readout waveform. The reason why the conductive adhesive is used only for the fillet in this example is that the adhesive strength of the conductive adhesive is weaker than the adhesive strength of the epoxy resin-based non-conductive adhesive. That is, a non-conductive adhesive is used to bond and fix the slider and suspension in the original sense, and a conductive adhesive is used at the fillet portion to establish electrical continuity between the slider and the suspension. Therefore, if a conductive adhesive with sufficiently high adhesive strength is available, the conductive adhesive can be used in place of the non-conductive adhesive used to bond the slider 1 and the suspension 2.

As described above, the present invention has the effect of stabilizing the potential of the slider by establishing conduction between the slider and the suspension, thereby making it difficult for external noise to be superimposed on the readout waveform.
