Abstract

PURPOSE:To positively supply the air to an engine by forming at least part of the top surface of a molding, which is arranged at least over a suction duct in an engine cowling, in such a way as possible of being opened and closed. CONSTITUTION:In a top cowl 26 covering an engine, its parts in front of and behind the center in the width direction are recessed, and a plurality of openings 30, 32 are formed between it and the lower edge of a molding 28 fitted at the oversurface. A suction duct 40 is installed upright at the rear recess of the top cowl 26. At least part of the top surface of this molding 28 is formed with possibility of being opened and closed. That is, an opening/closing plate 50 is arranged which consists of a separate member constituting part of the top surface of the molding 28, and the end on the side behind it is pivoted by a pin 54 mounted on the molding 28 through a bracket 52. Only when necessary, this opening/closing plate 50 is opened to feed air to the engine positively.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [Field of Industrial Application] The present invention relates to a cowling that covers an engine of an outboard motor, and particularly to a structure of a cowling for supplying air to the engine.

[Prior Art] Conventionally, the cowling of an outboard motor, especially the top cowl, is provided with an intake duct rising upward, and a molding is placed above the intake duct to prevent moisture from directly entering the intake duct. The structure is designed to prevent this from happening.

Air is then supplied from the intake duct to the engine through an opening formed between the molding and the top cowl by negative pressure.

[Problems to be Solved by the Invention] Incidentally, as the outboard motor engine becomes larger, the amount of intake air required increases accordingly. It may be possible to make the opening between the cowl and the cowl larger, but this structure is not necessarily optimal from the perspective of preventing water from entering the engine. There is a risk that the engine will not be able to supply the engine with the necessary amount of fuel, and the engine's horsepower will be forced to decrease.

The present invention was made in view of these problems, and its purpose is to fully demonstrate the functions of the engine by supplying sufficient air to the intake duct as necessary. We offer cowlings for outboard motors that can be used.

[Function] In this way, by making at least a portion of the top of the sailing vessel openable and closable, it can be used only when sailing at high speed in good weather and calm water conditions, i.e. in conditions where water droplets are difficult to enter. By opening the molding, air can be actively supplied to the engine. If there is a high possibility of water getting in, this molding can be closed, just like a normal outboard motor.

In FIGS. 1 and 2, the outboard motor lO amplifier 12 is attached to the stern plate 18 of the hull via a swivel bracket 14 and a clamping flaket 16, so that the outboard motor lO is mounted relative to the hull. Mounted so that it can tilt up and down and swing left and right. A lower casing 22 having a propeller 20 is connected below the upper casing 12, and an engine (not shown) is mounted above the upper casing 12, covered by a bottom cowl 24 and a top cowl 26. be placed. In FIG. 3, reference numeral 40 denotes an intake duct which is formed upwardly in the recessed part on the rear side of the top cowl 26, and its upper part is covered by the molding 28, so that moisture and water droplets from above can be directly absorbed. It is prevented from entering into the intake duct 40. This intake duct 40 communicates with the opening 30 on the rear side, but since it extends to a position higher than the position of the opening 30, even if the air A sucked by negative pressure contains moisture, the is prevented from directly entering the intake duct 40. 1-The central part of the top cowl 26 is the rib 4 that is located at the highest position and rises upward.
2, and has an approximately circular opening when viewed from above. An annular seal 44 made of rubber or the like is attached to this rib 42, and the molding 28 is placed on the back side of an opening/closing plate 50, which will be described later, via this seal 44. Air A is also introduced from the front opening 32 via the space between the top cowl 26 and the sailing 28, bypassing the rib 42, and being supplied to the engine from the intake tact 40. In addition, the code|symbol 46 is a flywheel magneto, 4
8 is its cover.

The opening/closing plate 50 forms part of the top surface of the sailing 28,
It is composed of a separate member from the molding 2B. The opening/closing plate 50 is pivotally supported by a pin 54 provided on the molding 28 via a bracket 52 at the rear end of the engine (right side in FIG. 3). A torsion spring 56 is arranged around the pin 54, and the opening/closing plate 50 is urged to open clockwise in FIG. 3, that is, toward the front.

Reference numeral 60 indicates a locking protrusion of the opening/closing plate 50.
When it is closed uniformly with the molding 28, it fits into the recess 58 formed at the tip of the opening/closing plate 50, and the opening/closing plate 5
0 is held in its closed position against the biasing force of the torsion spring 56.

This locking projection 60 is connected to a wire 62 disposed along the back surface of the molding 28 and the back surface of the top cowl 26.
This wire 62 is extended to the driver's seat of the hull (not shown) together with a tube 64 covering it, so that the locking protrusion 60 can be moved in and out, that is, the opening/closing plate 50 can be opened from the driver's seat. .

By adopting this configuration, the opening/closing plate 50 is normally held in the closed position to prevent rain and sea spray from entering.
Air is supplied through openings 30 formed on the front and rear surfaces of the top cowl 26.

Only when traveling at high speed in good weather on a flat wood surface, the locking 1h protrusion 60 is moved back by operation from the driver's seat and released from the locking state with the recess 58, so that the opening/closing plate 50 is moved by the torsion spring 56. Due to the biasing force, it opens forward as shown by the two-dot chain line in the figure. As a result, as shown by symbol B, air is applied to the top cowl 26 by utilizing the speed of the ship under positive pressure.
air is introduced into the engine, and more air is obtained than the amount of air consumed by the engine. Therefore, compared to the state in which the opening/closing plate 50 is closed, the engine function increases by E. Further, since the inside of the top cowl 26 is under positive pressure, moisture entering from the rear is not sucked in, and therefore water entering from the rear through the opening 030 is reduced.

Further, since the opening/closing plate 50 opens to protrude further upward from the top surface of the molding 28, there is an effect that it is suitable for providing an image of a special high-performance engine.
