When packing heavy objects such as coils, mechanical equipment, refrigerators, etc. for transportation, wooden dunnage is usually used to create a gap under the cargo for the fork of a forklift or a gap for the lifting wire to pass through.
For packing, multiple so-called skids are lined up at intervals, items are placed on top of them, and the items are tied with hoops or the like to prevent them from moving.

However, due to the shortage of wood, square steel pipes are being used instead of wooden skids, but unlike wood skids, they are hollow and buckle due to abnormal impact during transportation. This may cause the cargo to collapse, or it may become impossible to collect and reuse it.

One way to prevent buckling is to use thick-walled rectangular steel pipes, but this increases the cost and often makes recovery difficult when sending to a remote location or when the number of pipes is small. This is undesirable as it further increases.

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a packing skid made of irregularly shaped light weight steel pipes that solves the problems of conventional steel pipe skids as described above. In a packing skid that is tied together with cargo to facilitate cargo handling and transportation, the skid is a hollow structure having a parallel top surface and a bottom surface, and parallel side surfaces connecting both ends of the top surface and the bottom surface, respectively. It is made of a lightweight square steel tube, and is characterized in that a plurality of reinforcing embossments are formed side by side in the longitudinal direction on both sides, and a groove that continues in the longitudinal direction and is depressed inward is formed in the bottom surface. Relating to lightweight square steel pipe skids for packaging.

Next, embodiments shown in the accompanying drawings will be described.
A rectangular steel pipe 1 used in the skid of the present invention has a pattern 3 embossed on both side surfaces 2, 2 of a rectangular cross section. The embossed pattern 3 can be made long and wide in the direction perpendicular to the axis of the steel pipe as shown in Fig. 2, or elongated as shown in Fig. 3 to increase the strength against buckling. As shown in Figure 4, an X-shape that intersects at an angle of 45 to 75 degrees is expected to be more effective when force is applied diagonally, such as when sudden braking is applied during transportation.

In any case, the shape and spacing should be determined within a range that does not cause out-of-plane buckling or plastic deformation. Note that the effect of embossing will be even greater if the embossing is not made to protrude only to either the outer or inner surface of the steel pipe, but instead is made to protrude alternately to the inner and outer surfaces.

In addition, as shown in Fig. 1, a groove 5 recessed inwardly is formed on the bottom surface 4 of the square steel pipe throughout the entire length of the steel pipe, which not only reduces deflection of the skid but also binds the skid and cargo together. In addition to being convenient because you can use this groove to hang a hoop for a band, it also has the advantage that the band will not damage the corners of the cargo on the skid.

Such irregularly shaped square steel pipes could not be manufactured by the conventional mass production method of roll forming square steel pipes. In other words, in the past, the steel pipe was made into a round cross-section and then passed through forming rolls to form a square cross-section.
Although it was not possible to emboss the sides of rectangular cross-sections, advances in bending roll technology made it possible to mass-produce various deformed steel pipes, and this led to the development of the rectangular lightweight steel pipe skid of the present invention.

As explained above, the rectangular lightweight steel pipe skid of the present invention has embossed side surfaces, making it resistant to buckling, and sufficient strength can be obtained even with skids made of square lightweight steel pipe roll-formed from thin material. In addition to being able to reduce packaging costs, using the grooves provided on the bottom to hang the band prevents the band from coming off and prevents damage to the corners of the cargo. The effect is extremely large.
