Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce slippage of a paper due to backward feeding and enable accurate positioning of the paper by feeding the paper backward, detecting the leading end of the paper, and thereafter feeding the paper backward by a predetermined distance, thereby positioning the paper relative to a printing head. CONSTITUTION:Before printing by a printing head 1 is started, the leading end of a paper is located in a position indicated by an arrow (p), and the distance between the leading end and a cutter 3 is x1. Starting from this condition, printing is conducted while the paper is fed, and when the printing is finished, the leading end of the paper have been fed by a distance of x2 (a printing range for the paper), and the paper is fed further by a distance of (x1 + P -x2), where P is the width of one sheet of label. In this condition, a cutter 3 is driven to cut the paper, then a platen 2 is rotated reversely to feed the paper backward (by a distance of x3) until the leading end of the paper is detected by a sensor 4, and the paper is fed further backward by (x1 - x2), thereby positioning the leading end of the paper at the position indicated by the arrow (p).

[Prior Art] For example, in a label printer in which a print head and a cutter are arranged relatively far apart, when data printing on the paper is completed by printing and printing, the paper is fed a predetermined distance and then cut by the cutter. It is designed to cut and issue labels. Since the remaining portion of the paper protrudes considerably forward from the position of the print head, the paper is back-fed after the label is issued to position it to the print head.

That is, conventionally, when setting paper in a label printer, the leading edge of the paper protrudes ahead of the cutter position, as shown in FIG. 3(a).
In this state, operate the cutter to align the leading edge of the paper as shown in Figure 3(b), and then rotate the platen in the opposite direction to align the paper with a distance of 11tIX as shown in Figure 3(C).
Backfeed the paper by 1 to position the paper to the print head, and in this state, print data on the paper using the print head, feed the paper a distance x 2 as shown in Figure 3(d), and when printing is completed, As shown in Figure 3 (e), the paper is Xl+p-x2 (where P is the length of the label)
After feeding the paper a distance of X1, the cutter is operated to cut the paper, and then, as shown in FIG.

[Problem to be Solved by the Invention] In a printer, a stepping motor rotates a platen to feed or backfeed paper, but due to slipping between the platen and paper, etc., the stepping motor is rotated a predetermined number of steps. In some cases, the amount of paper fed does not match the number of steps.

However, since conventional paper backfeed is performed based on the set xl data, there is a discrepancy between the data and the actual backfeed amount, and this discrepancy is added each time the backfeed is repeated. There is a problem in that a large deviation occurs in the positioning of the paper relative to the print head, making it impossible to print at an accurate position.

Therefore, the present invention minimizes the amount of pack feed performed based on the data to reduce the deviation due to backfeed, and also prevents the amount of deviation from being added due to repeated backfeeds, so that the paper is always placed in the print head. The purpose of this invention is to provide a method for positioning paper in a printer that can accurately position the paper.

[Operation] In the present invention having such a configuration, when the paper is back-fed, the leading edge of the paper is first detected by a sensor. When the sensor detects the leading edge of the paper, it further backfeeds a predetermined distance from there based on the data to position the paper relative to the print head. Therefore, the amount of pack feed based on the data can be reduced as much as possible.

In this state, the platen 2 is reversely rotated and pack fed to set the paper at the printing position of the print head 1.
This backfeed is first performed until the leading edge of the paper is detected by the sensor 4, as shown in FIG. 2(e). This results in a backfeed of distance HX3.

Then, after sensor 4 detects the leading edge of the paper,
The paper is back-fed based on the data set for the distance xl-X3), and the leading edge of the paper is positioned at the position indicated by arrow P, as shown in FIG. 2(f). In this embodiment, the cutter 3 is driven to cut the paper and issue a label after printing on the paper is completed and the paper is fed a predetermined distance (xl+p-x2). When the paper is back-fed and the sensor 4 detects the leading edge of the paper, the paper is further back-fed from there by a distance (X1-X3) based on the data to position the paper at the printing start position by the print head 1.

In this way, the backfeed distance can be shortened based on the data, so even if some deviation occurs, the deviation will not interfere with printing by the print head 1. Moreover, even if there is a deviation in the feed distance when feeding to cut paper, the pack feed distance to sensor 4 is mechanically determined by the installation position of sensor 4, so backfeeding of the distance of (XI Misalignment caused by feeding or cutting is not accumulated each time a label is issued. Therefore, the deviation in the positioning of the paper relative to the print head 1 is always due to the deviation of only one backfeed performed based on the data (XI can be positioned accurately.

In addition, although the above embodiment describes the application of the present invention to a label printer, the present invention is not necessarily limited to this, and the present invention may be applied to a type of printer that backfeeds the paper to position it at the printing position after printing on the paper is completed. If so, it can be applied.

[Effects of the Invention] As detailed above, according to the present invention, the amount of pack feed performed based on data is minimized to minimize the deviation due to backfeed, and the amount of deviation is increased by repeating backfeed. Therefore, it is possible to provide a paper positioning method in a printer that can prevent paper from being damaged and always accurately position the paper with respect to the print head.
