Abstract

PURPOSE:To automatically and simply recognize various types of packages by making a printed board itself contain the codes to automatically recognize the packages without attaching the bar code labels. CONSTITUTION:The code corresponding to the type of a printed board 1 is turned into a binary code at a designated position of the board 1 in a production process of the board 1. A pierced hole 2 is set at a position corresponding to '1' and no pierced hole is prepared at a position corresponding to '0' respectively. When a package code is read, a light emitter 3 and a light receiver 4 are set at the designated positions of the panel 1 so that this panel 1 is held between the emitter 3 and the receiver 4. The light beams 5 sent from the emitter 3 are transmitted through the holes 2 of the board 1 and these transmitted beams 6 reach the receiver 4. The receiver 4 transmits the signals to a decoder 7 to show the number of holes 2 and the presence or absence of the corresponding beams 6. Then the decoder 7 converts these received signals and detects the binary codes of the board 1. In such a way, various types of packages an be recognized.

The conventional package code recognition method described above requires a jig for product packaging or a process of pasting a barcode label on the package, so it is not necessary to use a jig or a barcode reader that can read the code unattended. It has the disadvantage of being expensive.

The package code recognition system of the present invention includes through-holes in which codes for each package are binary-encoded at predetermined positions on a printed circuit board, detecting means for detecting the number and position of the through-holes, and detecting means for detecting the number and position of the through-holes. It is characterized by comprising a converting means for converting the output signal of the detecting means into a binary code.

As shown in FIG. 1(b), at the specified position of the printed board 1, a code corresponding to the type of printed board is encoded in binary, such as ""l 010°', at the manufacturing stage of the printed board 1.
A through hole 2 is provided at the position corresponding to ``1'', and 0゛'
No through holes are provided at positions corresponding to . When reading the package code, place the light emitting device 3 at the specified position on the printed board 1 across the printed board 1 as shown in Figure 1 (a).
and a light receiver 4 are arranged. The light 5 emitted from the light emitter 3 passes through the printed board 1 only where the through hole 2 exists, and the transmitted light 6 reaches the light receiver 4. The light receiver 4 sends a signal indicating the presence or absence of passing light 6 corresponding to the number of through holes 2 and the hole position to a decoder 7.
The decoder 7 converts this signal to detect the binary encoded code of the printed board 1.
