Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance transfer properties and to prevent abrasion smearing by providing an undercoat layer based on a resin having a specific glass transition point and/or wax having specific penetration to the upper surface of a heat-resistant base material and providing a heat-meltable ink layer to the upper surface thereof. CONSTITUTION:An undercoat layer having function having enhanced transfer properties and covering a transferred heat-meltable ink layer to protect the same is provided between the base material and heat-meltable ink layer of a thermal transfer recording medium. The undercoat layer is based on a resin and/or wax and, as the resin component, one or more kind of a resin having a glass transition point of 70 deg.C or less such as an ethylene-vinyl acetate copoly mer, an acrylic resin or an ethylene-acrylic copolymer is used. As the wax, one or more kind of one having penetration of 5 or less (at 25 deg.C) such as carnauba max. montan wax or candelilla wax is used. With respect to the pref. compounding of the resin and the wax, the resin is 0-50wt.% and the wax is 50-100wt.%.

Thermal melting of thermal transfer recording media in which a heat-melting ink layer is provided on a film made of polyester resin or polyimide resin, or a thin paper such as glassine paper, tracing paper or condenser paper. There is a known thermal transfer recording method in which plain paper or a tag is superimposed on the surface of the thermofusible ink layer and heated from the substrate side with a thermal head to melt the heat-fusible ink layer and transfer it to the plain paper or tag. .

However, plain paper and tags onto which the heat-fusible ink layer was transferred using this method had the disadvantage that they were easily stained by rubbing the heat-fusible ink layer. Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a heat-sensitive transfer recording medium that can prevent a heat-melting ink layer transferred onto plain paper or a tag from being scratched and stained.

The thermal transfer recording medium of the present invention has a protective layer that prevents sticking caused by melting of the base material due to the heat of the thermal head by coating one side of the base material with silicone resin or surfactant fl, if necessary. A coating material mainly composed of resin and/or wax is applied to the other surface of the cough substrate by a commonly used coating method such as a solvent coating method or an emulsion coating method to form an undercoat layer (a suitable method is used). The thickness is 1 to 4μ), then
It can be easily manufactured by forming a heat-melting ink layer on this undercoat layer by a conventional method (the preferred thickness is 1 to 5 μm).
