The present invention relates to golf balls, and more particularly to golf balls using natural and/or synthetic balata as a cover. In the past, almost all golf balls had white paint on the surface, but recently, colored balls such as yellow, orange, and peach have become popular because they are visible even at dusk and stand out on the green. I came. Color balls are colored by coating the surface of the cover with fluorescent paint or fluorescent color paint containing fluorescent pigments, but in the case of balata covers, vulcanizing agents and vulcanization accelerators are added to the rubber. Due to yellowing of the cover surface due to bleeding and surface treatment to improve the adhesion between the paint and the cover, the relatively transparent fluorescent color paint layer appears cloudy and darkened, and the brightness unique to fluorescent color paints. The drawback was that colored balls with different tones could not be obtained. Also, if the white cover is exposed to the surface due to cut scratches from iron clubs, face scratches, or paint peeling off during play, the scratches and peeling marks will be easily noticeable due to the difference in color from the colored paint, and the user will be inconvenienced. It had the drawback of giving pleasure. The present invention was completed as a result of intensive research to solve these problems, and provides a golf ball in which a color paint layer is provided on a cover mainly composed of natural and/or synthetic balata. This invention relates to a fluorescent color golf ball comprising an opaque paint layer and a fluorescent color paint layer coated thereon, and characterized in that the cover is colored in the same color tone as the fluorescent color paint layer. The pigment blended into the cover of the present invention may be any pigment such as an organic pigment, an inorganic pigment, or a fluorescent pigment, and is colored in the same color or the same color as the fluorescent color paint layer. Examples of such pigments include
Lumogen yellow (1,5-
Dianilinoanthracen), Lumogen yellow
Orange (Saclicyl aldazine), Lumogen Redish
Orange(2-Anilino-4(2,5-dichloro-
benzoylamino)1,9-anthra-pyrimidine)
Fluorescent pigments, Fluorescein, Eosine, etc.
Examples include plastic fine powder fluorescent pigments colored with Rhodamine 6G and Rhodamine B, and azo organic pigments such as Benzidine Yellow G, GR, Benzidine Orange G, and Priliant Scarlet G. The amount of the pigment added should be such that it does not deteriorate the physical properties of the cover, and is usually 10% by weight or less based on the cover material. Golf balls molded with colored covers go through standard pretreatment, first a layer of opaque paint is applied, then a fluorescent color paint is applied and stamped, and finally a clear paint is applied to finish the ball. The first opaque layer contains an inorganic pigment in a solid content of 1 to 90% by weight, preferably 10 to 60% by weight. Inorganic pigments are white and highly opaque;
In other words, it is desirable to use a pigment that suppresses the transmission of visible light and has a high reflection and scattering ability, such as titanium oxide, but any light color that does not affect the color tone of the fluorescent color paint can be used. Fluorescent pigments or organic pigments having the same color or similar color tone as the paint may be used. The coating thickness of this paint is preferably as thin as possible as long as the opacity to visible light is not impaired, and is preferably about 5 to 20 microns. Fluorescent color paint is a two-component curing type urethane paint that is generally used for coloring golf balls and contains the aforementioned fluorescent pigments. The amount of fluorescent pigment to be blended is the amount normally used in general paints for coloring golf balls, and is particularly preferably about 25% by weight. Application of this paint gives the golf ball a very clear color tone under visible light. The clear paint for the outer layer is not particularly limited, but it is generally used for the finish coating of golf balls.
A liquid-curing urethane clear paint is preferred. As described above, the opaque paint layer provided between the color layer of the same color and the fluorescent color paint layer causes visible light that passes through the highly transparent fluorescent color paint layer to be strongly reflected and scattered. When the light re-transmits through the fluorescent color paint layer, it can excite the fluorescent pigment to give a more vivid color tone, and it can block the light from the cover layer and reduce the fluorescence due to the influence of the color tone of the cover. It has the effect of preventing clouding, darkening, etc. of the optical color paint layer. Furthermore, by coloring the cover in the same color as the fluorescent color paint layer, it is possible to compensate for defects such as noticeable imperfections due to cut scratches and paint peeling. Example Golf balls were molded using balata containing 0.2 parts by weight of benzidine yellow GR in the cover so as to have the same color as the paint, and using regular uncolored white balata for comparison. Comparing the results of coating the above golf ball with the paint of the present invention and the paint of the comparative example, the following results were obtained.
