Heat cutters are currently the mainstream cutter for cutting weft threads in water jet looms, especially water jet looms. However, from the viewpoint of energy saving and versatility, shear type cutters, so-called mechanical cutters, are once again attracting attention.

On the other hand, a mechanical cutter requires a predetermined contact pressure between a pair of fixed blades and a movable blade due to its structure. Such contact pressure has conventionally been provided by the elasticity of a leaf spring. However, since it is difficult to accurately adjust the spring elasticity, problems such as premature wear of the cutting edge and cutting errors occur. In this way, adjusting the contact pressure has a large effect on cutting performance and is also directly related to blade wear.

Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide the necessary contact pressure between the fixed blade and the movable blade without using an elastic body such as a leaf spring. With this purpose in mind, the present invention utilizes the force of a magnet to bring the movable blade into pressure contact with the fixed blade, thereby obtaining a predetermined contact pressure therebetween.

By the way, the force of a magnet can be divided into repulsive force and attractive force. Therefore, the necessary contact pressure can theoretically be provided by both adsorption and repulsion forces. However, when the attraction force is used, it is possible that the blades will wear out and the distance between the opposing magnets will become narrower, and the magnets will eventually come into contact with each other, making it impossible to obtain contact pressure.

In view of this, the present invention utilizes the repulsive force of the magnet to apply a predetermined contact pressure between the fixed blade and the movable blade.

The cutter 1 for a steelless loom according to the present invention includes, as main parts, a fixed blade 2, a movable blade 3, and a pair of permanent magnets 4 and 5 for applying a predetermined contact pressure to these blades. The fixed blade 2 is fixed to the end face of a cylindrical bracket 6 as a fixed member, and the movable blade 3 is fixed to a holder 7 at a position where it can come into contact with the fixed blade 2. This holder 7 is fixed to one end of a shaft 9 rotatably supported by a bearing 8 inside the bracket 6. Further, this shaft 9 is movable in the axial direction with respect to the bearing 8, and the other end is fixed to one end of the lever 10.

One permanent magnet 4 is fixed to the side surface of the lever 10 on the bracket 6 side, and the other permanent magnet 5 is fixed to the end surface of the bracket 6 at a position facing the permanent magnet 4. The opposing surfaces of the pair of permanent magnets 4 and 5 are set to have the same polarity, that is, both have N poles or S poles.

The lever 10 is synchronized with the main movement of the loom, takes in a rocking movement and imparts it to the movable blade 3. For this reason, the fixed blade 2 and the movable blade 3 sandwich the weft thread 11 inserted into the path by swinging motion, and cut it by the shearing force between them. During this time, the pair of permanent magnets 4 and 5 bias the shaft 9 in the direction of the arrow in FIG. 1 due to the repulsive force between them. Since this biasing force acts almost directly as contact pressure between the fixed blade 2 and the movable blade 3, the pair of fixed blade 2 and the movable blade 3 are able to make the necessary contact due to the repulsive force of the permanent magnets 4 and 5. Apply shear force under pressure.

During long-term operation, even if wear occurs between the fixed blade 2 and the movable blade 3 and the distance between the pair of permanent magnets 4 and 5 increases by a small amount, the repulsive force between them does not change significantly. The contact pressure between the fixed blade 2 and the movable blade 3 is extremely stable.

If the pair of permanent magnets 4 and 5 are of a type that applies contact pressure by attraction force, the fixed blade 2 and the movable blade 3
When wear occurs between the pair of permanent magnets 4 and 5,
are attracted to each other and do not generate any more biasing force, making it impossible to maintain stable contact pressure over a long period of time. Therefore, the preferred form of use of magnetic force must be repulsive force as in the above embodiment.

Next, FIG. 3 shows another embodiment. In this embodiment, a permanent magnet 4 is attached to the end face of the holder 7, and a permanent magnet 5 is fixed to the side face of another fixing member, for example, the mounting plate 12, in opposition thereto. The functions and effects of this embodiment are similar to those of the above embodiment.

In the above embodiment, the repulsive force is generated by a pair of permanent magnets 4 and 5, but this repulsive force can also be generated by an electromagnet. In the case of electromagnets, it is easy to control the current, so it is possible to adjust the magnitude of the repulsive force and to apply intermittent energization.

In this invention, the contact pressure between the fixed blade and the movable blade is provided by the repulsive force of the magnet, so the contact pressure is stable and there is no wear on the sliding part between the blades. However, since the contact pressure between the blades does not change significantly, stable cutting performance can be obtained over a long period of time.
