Conventionally, the eyes used in relatively inexpensive dolls, animal toys, etc. are often simply made of plastic, but for expensive dolls, animal specimens, and other items that require a three-dimensional effect, glass eyes are commonly used. For example, a lens-shaped thin piece of glass with curved inner and outer surfaces is made, and paint is applied over it with the back side up to reveal the pupil, iris, etc.
However, this processing is done by hand,
It requires time and skill, and in particular, the production of the lens-shaped glass flakes that serve as the base body requires the most effort.

By the way, doll heads are generally manufactured by fitting split molds made of plaster from the front and back and pouring mud into the mold from above. In this case, the eyes are attached to the eyeballs provided in the face mold. In advance along the hole,
Glue is applied to the inner surface of the mold, and after molding, the raw material that leaks and adheres to the eyeball surface is scraped off with a knife to correct the eye alignment, so the eyeball surface is hard enough to not be scratched during the above correction. It is desirable to have a smooth surface and a uniformly curved surface that matches the edge of the eyelet attachment hole of the formwork. However, making the lens-shaped glass flakes itself requires time and effort, and it has been extremely difficult to obtain a uniformly curved surface.

In contrast, this invention uses acrylic resin, which is a recently developed ultraviolet curable resin, that cures quickly.
Taking advantage of its excellent scratch resistance and transparency, it has a harder, smoother surface and a more evenly curved surface. In other words, the above-mentioned ultraviolet curing acrylic resin (trade name "UNIDITSUKU")
is fast curing, and by appropriately setting the amount of butyl acetate as a solvent and the UV irradiation time, it will naturally rise upward due to the surface tension formed by a film of a specified viscosity when applied. It can be solidified while being held in a lens-like spherical surface to form a glass surface.

The drawing shows an example of a doll's eyeball made by the method of the present invention. Reference numeral 1 denotes a flat or moderately curved substrate made of transparent resin, glass, etc., on which a desired pupil, iris, etc. are printed 2 on the front or back surface. Reference numeral 3 denotes an ultraviolet curing type acrylic resin layer which has been dropped onto the substrate 1, and as mentioned above, it solidifies in a lens-shaped state due to its own surface tension.

Note that the substrate 1 is not limited to the above-mentioned front and back plate-like one, but can also be one in which the back side is coated with paint to sequentially bulge the pupils, irises, etc., or the back side is pre-attached with mounting legs etc. for fixing it to the doll's face. It may be something that has been done. Furthermore, by changing the degree of leakage depending on the material of the substrate, it is also possible to change the rise of the dropped ultraviolet curable acrylic resin layer.

As explained above, this invention makes it possible to easily and inexpensively produce an eyeball having a curved surface formed with a certain radius and glass-like transparency by utilizing the characteristics of ultraviolet curable acrylic resin, and is extremely efficient. It is true.
