A connector to be inspected by the connector assembly inspection apparatus of this invention will be described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 3, taking a female terminal as an example. This connector 3 has a generally square box-like casing with several lead wires 1.
A terminal fitting 2 is attached to the lead wire 1, and the terminal fitting 2 has a contact portion 21 formed by wrapping around the end to give elastic pressure and a gripping portion of the lead wire. It has a flat concave stepped portion 22 between the two.

The state in which this lead wire 1 is installed in the connector 3 is clearly shown in FIG. Several insertion holes 32 are formed in the connector 3, and one lead wire 1 is inserted and fixed into each of these insertion holes 32 so that the terminal fitting 2 can be seen from one end of the insertion holes 32. Ru. Inside the insertion hole 32 of the connector 3 is a lance 3 that is a type of locking claw.
3 is formed integrally with the connector 3 so as to extend obliquely in the same direction as the insertion direction of the lead wire 1. When inserting the lead wire into the hole 32, the contact portion 21 of the terminal fitting 2 is inserted into the lance 3.
3 upwards and go to the back, and then remove the terminal fitting 2.
When the lance 33 is completely inserted into the predetermined position, the lance 33 just comes off the contact portion 21 and falls into engagement with the recessed step 22 of the terminal fitting 22 due to its own elasticity, preventing the terminal fitting 2 from coming off. It will be fixed here. The lower lead wire 1A in FIG. 3 shows a state in which the terminal fitting 2 is completely fixed in a predetermined position, and in this state, a lance gap 34 of a predetermined size is defined above the lance 33. However, the terminal fitting 2 cannot be completely inserted into the upper lead wire 1B in the figure, and therefore the lance 33B is still pushed up by the contact portion 21 of the terminal fitting. Gap 34
Please note that it is not defined.

Now, the inspection device of this invention checks whether the terminal fittings 2 of each lead wire of the connector 3 described above are fixed in a predetermined position, that is, whether a predetermined lance gap 34 is defined, and whether the conduction of each lead wire is complete. It is intended to inspect the following two points, and has the configuration described below for the inspection purpose.

A recess 41 into which the entire connector 3 can be inserted is formed on one surface of the inspection device casing 4, which has a square box shape as a whole, and is used as a male connector to be connected to the terminal fitting 2 of the connector 3. Flat plate-shaped lead wire continuity detection pins 7A, 7B, . . . having the same shape as the terminal fittings are fixed at positions corresponding to the terminal fittings 2 of the connector 3, extending in a direction in which they fit in a straight line with the terminal fittings 2. Further, in this recessed part 41, lead wire continuity detection pins 7A, 7B,
Lance position detection pins 8A, 8B,... are fixed in parallel with..., but these are provided at positions corresponding to the lance gap 34 of the connector 3, and have the same thickness as the lance gap 34. . This concave portion 41 further includes an engagement notch 3 of the connector 3.
A pressing rod 5 is provided at a position corresponding to 1 in a slidable manner in parallel with this engagement notch, and the pressing rod 5
A switch device 6, such as a suitable limit switch, is mounted on the rear side opposite to the recess 41 so as to be activated by being pressed by the pressure rod 5. Also, one or more other inspection devices 12 and other connectors 13 are provided for each lead wire.
A circuit is formed with the circuit 14 of the product to be inspected, and each of these circuits includes an element 10 for confirming the attachment of the terminal fitting 2 to the connector 3, such as a buzzer or a red lamp, and an element 9 for confirming energization. It is being

Next, let's explain how to use this connector inspection device. The engaging notch 31 side of the connector housing 3 to be inspected is aligned with the notch groove 42 of the inspection device casing 4 and pushed into the recess 41. If all the terminal fittings 2 of the lead wires of this connector 3 are installed in the specified positions and are good, then the lance position detection pins 8A, 8B of the inspection device,
... all fit into the corresponding lance gap 34 as shown by the lance position detection pin 8A in FIG.
You can proceed to position A, which is drawn with a two-dot chain line inside. If any one of the terminal fittings of each lead wire is not in the specified position, the lance will not come down as shown at 33B in the same figure, and therefore the lance gap 34 will not be defined. The corresponding lance position detection pin 8B cannot be inserted, that is, the connector 3 as a whole can only be advanced to position B.

As can be seen from the above, the A position of the connector 3 is an acceptable position in which all the terminal fittings 2 of each lead wire are in the specified positions. This indicates that the connector is in good condition. Now, in this acceptable position, the tip of the engaging notch 31 of the connector also advances to the A position, so the switch device 6 is actuated via the pressing rod 5 to close the circuit of the terminal fitting confirmation element 11, and further connect each lead wire. All circuits including the corresponding energization confirmation elements 9 are also closed. Therefore, at this time, the terminal fitting installation confirmation element 11 and all the energization confirmation elements 9,
For example, if the red lamp lights up, it means that the terminal fittings are installed and all the lead wires have good continuity. In other words, it means that the connector is a good quality connector with good terminal fittings and good continuity of the lead wires. is immediately obvious. If there is a circuit in which the conductivity check element 9 is not found to be energized,
Indicates that the lead wire of the circuit has poor continuity. In addition, if the terminal fitting confirmation element 11 is not energized, it means that the switch device 6 is not activated and the connector 3 is connected to the concave portion 4 of the inspection device.
This is thought to indicate that the connector cannot reach position A, which is the acceptable position, and can be dismissed as a defective product due to poor assembly of the terminal fitting of one of the lead wires of the connector.

In addition, in the above-mentioned embodiment, the female terminal fitting 2
A connector assembly inspection device is shown in which a male terminal fitting is incorporated by making the conduction detection pin of the lead wire into a female terminal fitting shape. can be used.

As detailed above, according to this invention, by simply pushing the connector into the recessed part of the inspection device, it is possible to check whether the terminal fitting 2 is properly attached to the connector 3 and the continuity of all lead wires. The presence or absence of defects can be instantly inspected, and the efficiency of inspecting connectors can be greatly improved.
