た。Detailed Description of the Invention [Field of Industrial Application] The present invention relates to ink for forming color filters used in color liquid crystal display elements, and more specifically, ink for intaglio offset, letterpress offset, gravure offset, etc. This invention relates to an ink for forming color filters by offset printing. [Prior art] Color filters are made of red (R),
The three primary colors of green (G) and blue (B) are colored in a mosaic or stripe pattern. Traditionally, the mainstream color filters have been of the type in which a dyeing substrate such as gelatin or acrylic resin is dyed with water-soluble dyes such as acid dyes. This method is a method for manufacturing color filters with good linearity and spectral characteristics, but on the other hand, it is a well-known fact that the photolithography process is used three times in dyeing the three colors RlG and B. Therefore, high cost is an unavoidable barrier, and there is a problem that it is unsuitable for increasing the size. Therefore, as a low-cost color filter manufacturing method, the offset printing method has recently been in the spotlight. That is, this method uses R, G of the color filter.
, B colored layers are formed by printing and baked. However, when manufacturing color filters using this offset printing method, there is a problem with the ink used, and a solution is needed. In other words, the ink is applied to a resin-based varnish containing 0.1~
Although it is made by dispersing pigments finely ground to about 1 μm, conventional inks of this type have the following problems. 1. No matter how finely the pigment is ground, it is 0. 1μm
The particle size is the limit, and the color purity is poor. 2. In order to develop the desired spectral characteristics, the ink thickness should be between 3 and 3.
There is a need to print thickly to 4 μm, but if it is printed thickly, the light transmittance will deteriorate due to pigment particles and extender pigment (Aerosil etc.) particles added as a subsidiary. In addition, light scattering occurs due to pigment particles and extender pigment particles, which poses a problem. As mentioned above, conventional color filter inks have had major problems that affect the image quality of liquid crystal display characteristics. [Problem to be Solved by the Invention J] As described above, the conventional techniques have had the problem of being able to provide only inks for color filters that have poor color purity and insufficient spectral characteristics. Therefore, the present invention is intended to solve these problems, and its purpose is to combine a polyimide precursor and N,N- To provide an ink for a color filter that has good transparency, good color purity, and excellent spectral characteristics by completely dissolving a water-soluble dye in a varnish containing dimethylacetamide in a molecular state instead of dispersing it. It is in. [Means for Solving the Problems J] The color filter ink of the present invention has a varnish consisting of a polyimide precursor and N,N-dimethylformamide as its main components. Polyimide is usually colored brown even with a film thickness of several micrometers, making it an unsuitable material for color filters.
Recently, materials that exhibit visible light transmittance of 90% even at 1 to 10 μm have been developed. Therefore, if such a material is used, from the viewpoint of heat resistance, it will not stick to the glass at the time it is made into ink, from the point of view of adhesion, and it will not stick to the glass from the viewpoint of good chemical resistance. It can also be said that this material has sufficient properties required as an ink material. On the other hand, polyimide precursors in solution form usually use N,N-dimethylacetamide as a solvent and have a viscosity of 20,000 c.
Although the varnish is about ps, this N,N-dimethylacetamide is a strong polar solvent and has the property of dissolving water-soluble dyes. In other words, if a water-soluble dye is completely dissolved in a molecular state in a varnish made of a polyimide precursor and N,N-dimethylacetamide, the dye becomes completely molecular, so basically it has extremely good transparency and color purity. This makes it possible to create color filter ink with excellent spectral properties. By adding a small amount of extender pigment such as Aerosil and adjusting the viscosity to an appropriate level, this ink material can be used for any type of offset printing, including intaglio offset, letterpress offset, and gravure offset. Further, by adjusting the dye concentration, sufficient spectral characteristics can be expressed with a printed film thickness of about 03 to 2 μm. After printing, the ink can be solidified by heating at 170 to 180°C for about 30 to 60 minutes and converted into polyimide.
A color filter with sufficient spectral characteristics can be obtained with a film thickness of about m. (Effect 1) Conventional inks are made by dispersing fine pigment particles in varnish. Therefore, the color purity is insufficient, and there are also negative effects such as scattering of light by the particles. Since the dye is completely dissolved in a molecular state, it has good transparency (and color purity).
Even when forming a thin printed layer, sufficient spectral characteristics can be exhibited. Further, in the present invention, the use of extremely transparent polyimide is also a key point in improving the ink properties. [Example 1] PI-TR manufactured by Mitsui Toatsu Chemical Co., Ltd. was used as a polyimide precursor with extremely high transparency. N,N-dimethylacetamide was further added to this PI-TR to give a viscosity of about 20,000 cps to produce a varnish. Adding a water dye and a slight extender pigment to this varnish,
The mixture was thoroughly kneaded and the dye was completely dissolved to prepare an ink. The R, G, and B gold inks were mixed as follows. Here, the red dye used was Cassenol Red NBR (manufactured by Nippon Kayaku), the green dye used was CFG106 (manufactured by Nippon Kayaku), and the blue dye was 85P (manufactured by Nippon Kayaku). Aerosil-972 (manufactured by Nippon Aerosil) was used as an extender pigment. The color filter ink of the present invention was prepared as described above. The prepared ink was printed on glass with an ITO (indium tin oxide) transparent electrode pattern by offset printing using a waterless intaglio plate. First, I printed R ink and baked it at 180℃ for 30 minutes.
Next, printing and baking were performed in the order of G and B. As described above, a color filter with a mosaic pattern consisting of three colors, R, G, and B, was created. The size of each color dot was 230 μm square, and the film thickness was 0.9 μm. Figure 1 shows the spectral characteristics of the produced color filter. [Example 21] A color filter was prepared in the same manner as in Example 1 using the following ink composition. The film thickness after each ink baking was 0.5 μm. The spectral characteristics were almost the same as in Example 1. [Effects of the Invention] As described above, unlike conventional color filter inks, the color filter ink of the present invention has extremely high transparency and one-color linearity because the coloring material is completely dissolved in a molecular state. Therefore, it has become possible to provide a printed color filter with extremely good spectral characteristics at low cost. On the other hand, if the ink film thickness is at least 0.3 to 0.5 μm, good spectral characteristics can be ensured. Conventionally, since the ink film thickness of printed color filters is as thick as 3 to 4 μm, it has been an essential technique to form transparent electrodes on the ink layer. That is, when electrodes are formed under the ink layer, when a panel is formed, the applied voltage is lost due to the thick ink layer, resulting in a problem in that the drive characteristics of the liquid crystal deteriorate and the display characteristics deteriorate. Therefore, it was essential to form electrodes on top of the ink layer, but the formation technology is extremely difficult (
(in the case of a simple matrix method or an MIM active matrix method), which also caused a decrease in yield. However, if the ink of the present invention is used, the thickness of the ink layer may be as thin as around 0.5 μm, so that under the ink layer,
In other words, even if a transparent electrode is formed directly on the glass and an ink layer is formed on it, the applied voltage loss due to the ink layer when forming a panel as described above is negligible.
Therefore, the effect that the display characteristics were not deteriorated was also observed.
