In this drive device, there is a tracking servo that detects whether the correct track is being traced and returns it to the original position if it shifts, a focus servo that focuses the optical spot for reading information, and a linear velocity or rotational speed of the optical disk medium. Various types of control such as disk rotation control that maintains a constant value are performed.

。However, with conventional drive devices, it is not possible to know in advance if the drive device is malfunctioning or has malfunctioned. Therefore, if an optical disk medium is inserted into a drive device while it is malfunctioning or malfunctioning, it may not be possible to record data.
When a playback operation is performed, the information stored on the optical disk medium is destroyed, and when used in conjunction with other devices, the system may stop working.

In addition to preventing system failures when used in conjunction with other devices, it is also possible to notify users of malfunctions or failures of the drive device in advance to avoid inconvenience to the users. The purpose is to provide optical disc media.

When these defects occur, it becomes impossible to record or reproduce data, and especially during recording, previously recorded data may be destroyed, resulting in extremely serious consequences. Therefore, in the information track 2 of the optical disk medium 1 of this embodiment, inspection information for the focus servo system, inspection information for the tracking servo system, inspection information for the disk rotation system, etc. is recorded in advance. The information may be recorded on track 2, or any combination may be recorded on information track 2. In addition, the inspection information used in the present invention is limited to the inspection information exemplified here. Various types can be used.

In this example, a portion where the level of reflected light is lower than normal is provided on the information track 2, and the level of reflected light in that portion is set to a value near the limit of the standard value of the focus servo control ability of the drive device. The reflected light level can be lowered, for example, by pre-recording a bit string with a large duty ratio on the information track 2. In this way, when the optical disk medium 1 is installed in a drive device and an inspection routine is executed, servo control becomes impossible if the focus servo system of the drive device is malfunctioning, so the information track 2 is inspected. The information can be used to check whether the focus servo system operates normally.

する。Next, an example of tracking servo system inspection information will be described. In this example, as in the case of the focus servo system inspection information, a portion where the reflected light level is near the limit of the standard value of the focus servo control ability of the drive device is provided in the information track 2. As a result, it is possible to check whether the tracking servo system operates normally in the same way as above. In addition, in the case of recording/reproduction using the guide groove method, it is necessary to intentionally form a defect in the guide groove of information track 2 so that tracking cannot be performed with an abnormal drive device, or to create a sector with a defect in the guide groove. is registered, and the defect itself is used as inspection information. Then, in the inspection routine, it is checked whether the tracking servo system is normal or not depending on whether tracking can be performed or not.
次に、ディスク回転系の検査情報の例について述べる。Next, an example of inspection information for the disk rotation system will be described.

If this is done, a drive device in which an abnormality has occurred in the disk rotation system during the inspection routine will not be able to synchronize, and therefore will not be able to reproduce data.

In this case, by reproducing the test information using the drive device and checking whether the frequency is within a predetermined value, it is possible to determine whether there is an abnormality in the disk rotation system.
