Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve security against illegal use of a magnetic card by using a magnetic head having plural pieces of write/read gaps that are not parallel with each other and recording/reproducing information as moving a magnetic card sequentially in plural directions respectively perpendicular to the write/read gaps. CONSTITUTION:On the recording medium 21 of a magnetic card 2, data is recorded zigzag so that recording tracks come perpendicular to each other for magnetization patterns 22, 23, 24. A magnetic card reader/writer equipment is so constituted that the inserted magnetic card 2 is moved zigzag relatively with the magnetic head 1 as shown by the arrows A, B, C. Therefore, the magnetic head 1 relatively moves on the recording medium 21 sequentially as shown by the arrows A', B', C'. The magnetic pattern formed by recording on the zigzag recording tracks by means of the dedicated magnetic head having the read/write gaps corresponding to respective recording tracks, will not be read by an ordinary magnetic head having only one gap that scans only in one direction, hence the security can be improved.
