ームに、上端部にステアリングホイールを備えて
略前後方向に延びるステアリングシヤフトが支持
された車両のステアリング装置において、上記ス
テアリングシヤフトは、基材および表皮材からな
るコラムカバーによつて覆われており、該コラム
カバーの表皮材はインストルメントパネルの表皮
材に一体形成されている一方、上記コラムカバー
の基材はインストルメントパネルの基材に連結さ
れているとともに、該両基材のうち少なくとも一
方の基材あるいは両基材同士の連結部には、正面
衝突時、上記ステアリングホイールに前方へ向か
つて入力された衝撃荷重を吸収する衝撃吸収部が
設けられていることを特徴とする車両のステアリ
