Abstract

PURPOSE:To relieve load on operator by stopping a carry processing in case the width of a line-end space area preceding the carry processing is longer than the width of the leading word of the subsequent line. CONSTITUTION:Even though carry processings are sequentially executed with the lines following a designated line, if such a line in which the width X1 of the line-end space area preceding the carry stored in a memory 10 is longer than the width of the leading word of the following line is present, the carry processing is executed to the line. This means that in case the width of a line- end space area preceding to the carry is longer than that of the leading word of the subsequent line, it is judged on that the operator intentionally fed line in order to cut the sentence, and the carry processing is stopped at the status. As a result, as desired by the operator, only a group of sentences are processed to be carried at the end of a sentence.

(b) As disclosed on pages 255 to 256 of the instruction manual for the conventional engineer-made word processor 5WP-330, in the conventional English word processor, a single character is When deletion is instructed, a carry-up process is executed in which the word string in the next line of the specified line is moved to the empty area at the end of the specified line.

In other English word processors, this process is carried out not only for the next line after the specified line, but also for each line sequentially up to the end of a paragraph that starts several characters after the specified line.

#・ In other words, conventionally, the width of the empty area at the end of the line of the sashimi line is wider than the width of the first word of the next line, or the width of the empty area at the end of the line after the carry-up process is Depending on the comparison result of whether it is wider than the width of the first word of the line, it is decided whether or not to carry out the carry-up process. In the former case, this carry-out process is applied only to the line following the instruction line. However, in the latter case, it was applied to all lines starting from the instruction line until the beginning of the line becomes blank.

(c) Problems to be solved by the invention In the conventional example, in the former case where the carry-up process is applied only to the line following the instruction line, there are sentences that continue over several lines after the instruction line. In this case, the operator had to perform key operations to increment the word strings. In addition, with the latter specification, if the text to be edited is a so-called prefix text that does not include spaces at paragraph breaks, there is a possibility that the text will be processed up to the point where the author intentionally added a line break. The operator has to carry out a key operation to undo a sentence that has been erroneously carried forward. Therefore, both conventional methods have their own problems.

(D) Means for Solving the Problems The present invention sequentially executes, in response to a deletion instruction, a carry-up process that moves the word string of the next line to the empty area at the end of each line after the instruction line for which the deletion instruction was given. In the English editing method, for each line following the instruction line, a detection means detects the line end free area width before carrying-up processing, and a comparison means compares the detected free area width with the first word width of the next line. The above-mentioned problem is resolved by providing a comparison and, as a result of the comparison, when the width of the empty area at the end of the line before the carry-up process is larger than the width of the first word of the next line, the carry-up process is stopped.

(*) Effect In the present invention, the carry-up process is executed sequentially for lines after the instruction line, but if there is a line in which the width of the blank area at the end of the line before carry-out is larger than the width of the first word of the next line, that line The advance processing is stopped at the point up to. In other words, if the width of the empty area at the end of the line before carrying up is larger than the width of the first word of the next line, it is assumed that the author intentionally added a line break to cut the text, and the carrying process should be stopped at that point. Therefore, as intended by the creator, only the chunk of text up to the end of the text can be rounded up.

For example, as shown in No. 313W (a), a four-line English document consisting of 11 characters per line has been created on the text memory (4), and on the display screen (8), the cursor is Assume that the position (indicated by mouth) is set three characters before the end of the first line.

In this state, when you press the - character deletion key (2) to instruct deletion, the editing department (5) first checks if there are any characters after the cursor position, as shown in the flowchart in Figure 1. If the character exists, the character at the cursor position is deleted, and the word string after the cursor position is moved one character to the left in the line designated for deletion, that is, the first line. In the example shown in Figure 3 (a), there are no characters after the cursor position, so the width from the cursor position to the right edge (right margin) on the first line is set as X in the memory (9), and the memory ( 10), set 1″0″ as Xl. Next, it is determined whether the beginning of the second line, which is the next line, is blank, and if it is not blank, the word width r2 of the first word "rgh" of the second line. is set as Y in the memory (11). In the first line, Xl is set to "oJ, so when comparing the free area width X1 and the first word width Y, it is always Xi<
Therefore, the line end area width "1." before the second line carry-up process is set in the memory (10) as Xl.

Furthermore, in the next step, the free area width X and the first word width Y are compared, but in the first line, X-3>Y=2
Therefore, as shown in Figure 3 (b), the two-character word string "gh" in the next line is moved to the first line, and the remaining word strings in the second line are moved to the left end (left margin). be done. Then, the width of the empty area at the end of the line after the second line carrying process is “4”.

In other words, if the beginning of the second line is not blank according to the blank judgment,
The word width r3 of the first word '0PqJ' in the third line is set as Y in the memory (11), and Xl-1<Y-3, so the width of the blank area at the end of the third line before the rounding is '5'. Xl, as shown in Figure 3 (C), 3
The word string 'OriqJ' in the row is moved to the second row, and the remaining word strings in the third row are moved to the left end (left margin). Then, the end-of-line free area width "9" after the carry-up process for the third line is set as X in the memory (9), and the process then moves on to determining the blank space at the beginning of the third line. After this determination, the word width “2” of the first word “tu” in the fourth line is stored as Y (
11), and in the next judgment, Xl-5>Y
-2. Therefore, the process of moving down from the fourth line onward is stopped, resulting in the state shown in FIG. 3(c).

In this example, the author deliberately used the word "t" even though there was more than two characters worth of empty space at the end of the line after 'r8J
