(産業上の利用分野)
本発明は、看板や各種表示装置等の面光源として使用す
る面光源装置に関するものである。DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION (Field of Industrial Application) The present invention relates to a surface light source device used as a surface light source for signboards, various display devices, and the like.
(従来の技術)
面光源装置は、大型のものは看板やデイスプレィ装置と
して、また小型のものは各種計器類や液晶表示装置とし
て使用されている。そして従来のこの種の装置としては
、表示板の背面に蛍光灯等の光源を設置したものが多く
、表示板の明るさを均一にするためには、光源を多数使
用して背面化配置するか、または光源を表示板背面より
十分に離さなければならなかった。しかし前者のように
光源の数を多くすると、初期の費用が嵩むばかシでなく
、消費電力の量も大きく、熱の発生も懸念される難点が
あった。また後者のように光源を表示板背面より離すと
ハウジングの奥行きが大きくなり、装置を薄型化できな

(発明が解決しようとする問題点)
このような状況に鑑み、板状の導光体の一側端に線状光
源を配置した面光源装置が既に提案されている。この装
置は薄型化を満足することはできるが、照光面の明るさ
を均一化しにくい面があった。このだめ本出願人は、多
数の透光性板状体を積層すると共に、それぞれの−側端
を揃えて光入射端面を形成し、かつそれぞれの他側端を
背面側に向い階段状に段差が生ずるよう建配して出射端
面を形成した光拡散器について提案している(特開昭6
0−87387号公報参照)。そしてこの光拡散器を面
光源として使用する場合、上記出射端面に反射面を設け
るが、本発明においてはこの反射面の反射効率をより一
層高めて、輝度の向上を図るべく検討したところ、意外
にも銀反射面を用いると、反射効率が高くなることが判

(問題点を解決するだめの手段)
すなわち本発明の要旨とするところは、光拡散器の少な
くとも一側端に光源を配し正面に拡散板を備えてなる面
光源装置において、上記光拡散器は積層された複数の透
光性板状体のそれぞれの一側端が揃えられて光入射端面
が形成されており、かつそれぞれの他側端が背面側に向
い階段状に段差が生ずるように配されて出射端面が形成
されており、しかも各出射端面近傍には銀反射面を有す
る反射体が配置されていることを特徴とする面光源装置

(具体例)
透光性板状体として、厚さ1mmのアクリル樹脂板を用
い、この樹脂板を幅194m(第2図W)に切断すると

が&5mとなるよう9枚切断した。そしてこれらの樹脂
板の各端面を研摩して重ね合せ、両側に接着剤を施して

も従来のものに比べて高い輝度が得られ、面光源装置の

拡散板を備えてなる面光源装置において、上記光拡散器
は積層された複数の透光性板状体のそれぞれの一側端が
揃えられて光入射端面が形成されており、かつそれぞれ
の他側端が背面側に向い階段状に段差が生ずるように配
されて出射端面が形成されており、しかも各出射端面近
傍には銀反射面を有する反射体が配置されていることを
