Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable jamming with paper to be detected by providing a movable paper detection sensor, making various sizes of paper loadable at any selectable position, and installing a paper jamming detection feature with the use of a marked continuous paper. CONSTITUTION:Normally a paper detection sensor 8 is set at a position corresponding to the width of printing paper 9 using a movement lever 3, and when the paper detection sensor 8 indicates 'no loaded paper', an abnormally indicator lamp 11 lights. When 'paper jamming' is also detected with 'no loaded paper', the control method is selected by means of a selector switch 12 to use a black marked continuous paper and move the paper detection sensor 8 to a marking position. Further, if the paper detection sensor 8 indicates 'no loaded paper', the paper is fed beyond a length between two continuous markings. During this operation, if the paper detection sensor 8 indicates 'no loaded paper', the abnormality indicator lamp 11 lights accordingly, and if the lamp indicates otherwise, printing action stops due to, for instance, 'paper jamming'.

As mentioned above, in conventional printer paper detection devices, the position of the paper detection sensor is fixed, so when using narrow printing paper, do not set the paper in a position where it can correctly pass over the paper inspection sensor. However, there is a drawback that a normal paper detection operation cannot be performed. Further, since the conventional apparatus is configured to only detect the presence or absence of paper, there is also the drawback that even if a paper jam occurs when continuous paper is used, it cannot be detected.

An object of the present invention is to eliminate the drawbacks of the paper detection device of the conventional printer as described above, to enable paper of various sizes to be mounted at any position on the platen, and to detect paper jams in continuous paper. Therefore, it is an object of the present invention to provide a paper detecting device for a printer that has excellent operability and can prevent wastage of paper.

As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the paper detection sensor 8 provided at the rear of the platen 6 detects the printing paper mounted on the platen 6 by operating the moving lever 3 provided at the lower part of the front surface. It can be set at any desired position by moving its position left and right in accordance with the width of 9.

When performing the same control operation as in the conventional control method, the operation is as follows. That is, the control section 10 constantly monitors the paper detection sensor 8 while controlling the print head lateral feed motor control section 13 and the paper feed motor control section 14 . When the paper detection sensor 8 enters the state of ``no paper,'' the information is immediately sent to the paper feed abnormality indicator lamp 11, which lights up to notify the operator of this fact.

If the above control method is the first control method, the second control method operates as follows. That is, first, the control method is switched from the first method to the second method using the paper changeover switch 12. When using the printer with continuous paper that has a certain length of black fill (marking) at a position that cannot be used for printing, as shown in FIG. move it to the position. This makes it possible to detect not only the presence or absence of paper but also paper jams. That is, the control unit 10 constantly monitors the paper detection sensor 8 similarly to the first control method described above. However, even if the paper detection sensor 8 becomes "out of paper", it will not be determined as "out of paper" until the printer feeds the paper by the distance between two consecutive markings. If the paper detection sensor 8 is still in the state of ``no paper'' even if the paper is fed further, information of ``no paper'' is sent to the paper feed abnormality display lamp 11 to inform the operator. On the other hand, if the paper detection sensor 8 does not reach the "out of paper" state even after one sheet of paper has been fed, that is, if no markings can be detected, the controller 10 detects a paper feed error such as a paper jam. It is determined that this has occurred, and a signal is sent to the paper feed abnormality indicator lamp 11 to notify the operator of this fact, and the printing operation is stopped.

As explained above, the present invention has the advantage that by making the position of the paper detection sensor movable, paper of various sizes can be mounted at any position without being restricted by the position of the paper detection sensor. There is. In addition, by using marked continuous paper and providing a dedicated control function to detect paper jams, it is possible to detect not only the presence or absence of paper, but also the presence or absence of paper.
It is now possible to detect paper jams in continuous paper.
This has the effect of minimizing paper waste.
