When the sewing is completed, the sewing thread is automatically cut, the sewing machine 1 is stopped, and the presser foot device 4 releases the grip on the workpiece. These series of operations are controlled by the control device 6. The pre-programmed pattern data is used to automatically move the workpiece to the sewing start position without driving the sewing machine 1, start sewing, and at the same time as the pattern data end command is sent when sewing is finished. The origin detection device 12 causes the machine to move to the machine origin and then stop. This program consists of a series of operations from the start to the end of sewing, but the stop switch 16

When the start switch is operated, a series of operations is started, and the needle position is first read out sequentially from the machine origin 31 to the stitch pattern data stored in the storage medium 5, and then is moved in a free feed according to this data. The sewing machine moves to point 32, then operates through points 33, 34, and 35 to point 36 to perform actual sewing. After the thread trimming needle is stopped at the upper position at point 36, it returns to the machine origin 31 by idle feeding, and one sewing pattern is completed.

During this cycle, if the halfway stop switch is operated, for example, at a point 34 during actual sewing, the sewing machine is controlled to stop at the needle-up position at this point 34. At this time, by operating the selection switch 23, the input information from the port 28 is transmitted to the output of the port 29 via the CPU 20.
ON/OFF control allows you to select a stop after thread trimming or a stop without thread trimming.

As described above, according to the automatic sewing machine according to the present invention, when sewing is stopped midway by operating the midway stop switch, it is possible to arbitrarily select whether or not to cut the thread when the needle is stopped at the upper position. Generally, the midway stop switch is operated when the thread breaks, the bobbin thread runs out, or when the thread becomes tangled in the sewing mechanism. Alternatively, when stopping a series of operations, selecting whether or not to cut the thread improves operability and streamlines the work.
